I hope you had a very happy New Year! Thank you to the hundreds of visitors who came to ring in the New Year at CMEE last week - it was a mini-Times Square at the Museum for our 2nd annual Ball Drop with crowds of young revelers blowing on their noisemakers and counting down to 2010.
Thank you, as well, for making 2009 such a spectacular year for CMEE. Our attendance and memberships increased by 15% over 2008. We're also grateful to the many community organizations that partnered with us during the past year.
During the year ahead, there's much more to cheer about at CMEE. We've planned a fun-filled winter season - starting with a new schedule of classes beginning next month. See below to sign up!
We hope you can join us 'off site' at the Central Park Boat House in New York City on March 2 for our 3rd annual Ladies Lunch to benefit the Children's Museum of the East End. More details coming soon!
We look forward to seeing you here at CMEE soon and often! Sincerely,
 Stephen Long Executive Director |

Despite another snow storm, CMEE drew a capacity crowd to cheer and count down to 2010 at our 2nd annual New Year's Eve Ball Drop at Noon. The event allowed young children to experience the tradition of heralding in a new year with their families when they would normally be asleep! Museum guests first decorated festive horns, then gathered under the pirate ship in CMEE's permanent gallery to ring in the new year. At the stroke of Noon, families watched CMEE's glittering ball drop while confetti swirled overhead!

Welcome to the Jungle Gym! |
You may have noticed the jungle gym located in CMEE's back yard! Now visitors can enjoy outdoor fun and exercise on an outdoor playset - complete with monkey bars, platforms, and swings. We hope this is the beginning of a full-fledged, accessible playground at CMEE. Don't wait for spring - bundle up this winter and swing and climb away!

More Lemon-Aid |
Speaking of playgrounds, Alex Sidorsky donated $4 this fall to help support CMEE's playground effort. Alex, his sister Julia, and their friends created a lemonade stand this summer at the corner of Division and Elizabeth Streets in Sag Harbor. In addition to lemonade, they sold cookies and brownies for 15 cents each (or 2 items for 25 cents). These young entrepreneurs donated half their earnings to a local community organization. While Alex made his donation to CMEE, his sister Julia supported our neighbor, the South Fork Natural History Museum. To those who believe young kids are too immature to become philanthropic, Alex and Julia's examples show how deeply children care about helping their community. By participating in community organizations like CMEE, kids build self-esteem, a sense of belonging, and leadership skills. Alex presented CMEE Executive Director Steve Long with his donation last month at the Museum.

Read (and sing) all about it! |
In collaboration with Sandpiper Music Together, CMEE is delighted to unveil Cantemos Juntos (We Sing Together) later this winter at the Museum. This weekly program is designed to enhance the parenting, literacy and language skills of Spanish-speaking parents and their children ages zero to four. Studies have long demonstrated the improvement in language acquisition when incorporating music into the curriculum and CMEE's exhibits are perfectly suited for inspiring song! |

Mentorship Program |
CMEE extends a special thank you to Judy Berger, Sue Dubner, Laura Race, and Pat Wood for serving as mentors in our year-long Mentorship Program, ME, MYSELF & I - My Community in the Blink of an Eye. During the past year, students age 9-11 from the Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreational Center developed strong bonds with their mentors while participating in a range of stimulating and enriching experiences including field trips, growing vegetables in CMEE's garden, cooking, and making art. Thank you to the JenJo Foundation for making this program possible. We look forward to starting the program again this fall.

Pizza & Pajama Night
Young visitors are invited to come to the Museum in their pajamas, eat pizza, hear a story read by a guest reader in CMEE's Library, and participate in a special art activity.
This month, our special guest, Justin Ward, a local actor, will be reading Pajama Day by Lynn Plourde. Come see what Justin will be wearing that night and have fun creating some colorful pajamas with designs all your own!
