Dear Friends, The holiday season is officially underway at CMEE, and we hope you can join us for several fun family events coming up this month. On Saturday, December 19, we're hosting a Gingerbread Decorating Workshop AND a Winter Farmer's Market (great for holiday gifts or menus). Plus, don't miss our second annual New Year's Eve "Ball Drop" at Noon on December 31. See below for details. Looking ahead to 2010, we are busy planning new programs and classes, lining up an entertaining series of performances in our Amphitheater, and laying the groundwork for many special events including our second annual Family Fair this summer. Thank you for your ongoing support and for helping CMEE serve as a vital resource for families on the East End. We wish you a joyful holiday season and hope you can share the holiday festivities at CMEE. Sincerely, Stephen Long Executive Director |

Gingerbread Joy! |
Join us for a special "Get Creative" Program on Saturday, December 19 from 10 - 11am to celebrate the season and have fun with your children decorating gingerbread houses and cookies. Each child can decorate their own pre-assembled gingerbread house by frosting roofs, adding pretzel fences, gumdrop walkways or peppermint windows. Or, your child can choose to decorate a traditional gingerbread cookie. CMEE is providing complimentary cider and holiday music to help make a festive morning. CMEE staff will assist with decorating so parents of children 4 years and older may choose to enjoy coffee in the lobby (or shop in the MoonSoup toy store at CMEE). The program is free to members and $12 for non-members (includes museum admission). Space is limited so advance sign up is strongly encouraged. |

Piano Lessons Coming to CMEE! |
Thanks to a very generous donation by Frank Davis of Long Island Pianos, CMEE can now enjoy the sound of 'live' music. "We're just thrilled to have a piano here at the Museum" says Steve Long "and the timing couldn't be better since we now have a terrific piano teacher, Annette Dougherty, on hand to offer lessons!" Starting on January 4, "Miss Annette" will offer children ages Pre-K and up - and adults as well - individualized instruction in one of our classrooms - covering classical, pop, jazz, and more. Classes are geared to any level and include note reading, ear training, composition, music games and stories - classes are creative, relaxed, and fun. Stay tuned (our piano will be!) for registration details. |
Counting Down to New Year's Fun @ CMEE!... |
Looking for a fun way to celebrate the New Year with your family? Come to CMEE on Thursday, December 31 for our Second Annual New Year's Eve "Ball Drop" at Noon. Revelers are invited to come to the Museum at 11am, create and decorate their own noise makers and count down to "Mid-Day" as a ball is dropped from the CMEE Ship (aka "CMEE Time Square") complete with the swirling confetti and sparkling cider. CMEE's Ball Drop gives children, who will be fast asleep at midnight, the opportunity to ring in the New Year! |

A Day in 1621...in 2009 |
In the midst of last weekend's festivities, CMEE celebrated Thanksgiving by helping young visitors imagine travelling back nearly four centuries to experience daily life in 1621. After donning 17th century attire, children learned how to churn butter, write with a feather tip pen, make toothpaste with ashes and crushed mint leaves, and sing Pilgrim songs. Visitors received an eye-opening glimpse at a world void of modern conveniences and began to understand the parallels and differences between the cultures of 17th century England and the Wampanoag people of Eastern Massachusetts. |

Naming Opportunity for New CMEE family member! |
We are the delighted parents of....a bunny! Thanks to Program Coordinator, Amy Slack, a very sweet, very cute 2-year-old gray rabbit (he's a boy) joined the Museum this month, and has settled in to his new home in a hutch just outside our back lobby doors. Since he needs a name, we are asking for suggestions from our patrons. Please place your suggestion in the jar at the front desk or email them to Amy Slack and we will announce the winning entry in our January e-newslettuce - that is, newsletter. (Feel free to bring carrots and lettuce when you visit him - AND do take note of the care instructions posted near his hutch!) |
Climbing a Wall? You can at CMEE! |
Children have a perpetual, instinctive urge to 'climb' --- and now they can at CMEE! Come try our new junior climbing wall mounted inside the CMEE ship. Add a pirate costume if you like, and climb aboard with your "mateys" and set sail for adventure and fun on the CMEE seas! |

Emily's Animals |
CMEE is delighted to exhibit artist Emily Landon's "Wild Animals' - from moose, deer, foxes, raccoons, cranes, squirrels and bears - it is a veritable 'mini forest' in our lobby and outside along CMEE's boardwalk! Emily's animals were recently a featured exhibit at the Kate Werble Gallery in Soho, New York this past Summer. Come see these enchanting, life-size painted cut-outs on exhibit in the Museum through the holidays... |
