Dear Friends, Thank you to all the princesses, superheroes, animals, witches, and monsters who came to enjoy our Halloween Bug Bash last month. We were delighted to kick off all the Halloween festivities with another sold-out program. We're planning an even bigger and better Bash for next year so if you have any suggestions, please let us know in our online survey. This month, CMEE is starting our second session of Fall Classes including cooking, clay, music, movement, and more. Click here to register directly. Classes begin November 8. We hope you can join us this Friday, November 6 for our monthly Pizza & Pajama Night ( see sidebar for details). On behalf of the staff and Board of the Museum, we wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving! And, we thank you for helping to make CMEE such a vibrant resource for families on the East End. Sincerely, Stephen Long Executive Director |

Rows of laptop computers are not what you'd expect to see in our classroom. Beginning last month, CMEE was thrilled to be the venue for free evening computer class for adults. Offered by the LINCT Coalition (Learning and Information Networking for Communities via Technology), the classes offer each student the opportunity to earn a computer by completing the twelve-week training program. Parents Forums |
CMEE recently offered two free "Programming for Parents" forums, co-hosted by Cultural Care Au Pair, that addressed the important topics of nutrition and healthy eating, and nurturing each child's unique intelligences. The feedback was very enthusiastic, and participants found the forums filled with helpful information and resources. CMEE plans to continue the program in the early evenings in January. Based on our surveys, the forums will revisit healthy eating and developmental milestones, and examine new topics such as the media & your child and sleep issues. Thanks again to Cultural Care Au Pair for launching this educational program for families in our community! |

Wild Things to be exhibited at CMEE! |
CMEE will soon be home to a collection of wild things.
Working in a Springs studio surrounded by nature, artist Emily Landon was inspired to create a large wood cutout of a deer. This initial vision grew into an explosion of forest animals that are delightfully rendered in a brightly painted style.
Emily's Animals were exhibited at the Kate Werble Gallery in New York earlier this year. Reviewing the show, the New Yorker said "Emily Landon's bright plywood bestiary - painted cutouts of life-sized bears, foxes, deer, egrets, and others - crowds the gallery like a Seussian forest of signs."
Emily's Animals arrive at CMEE later this month and will be on display beginning December 3. |

New Year's Eve Ball Drop @ CMEE! |
Welcome the New Year at CMEE with your family and friends on December 31 - at NOON! - during our annual "New Year's Eve Ball Drop." Come at 11:30am, create your own noise maker, and help count down to 2010, (a little early). At the stroke of noon, you can revel in the swirling confetti and raise a glass of sparkling cider to celebrate the New Year. It's a fun way for families to include young children to mark this special occasion and tradition. |

Babysitter Blues? |
Most people protect the phone numbers of their babysitters as their 'best kept secret' - and for good reason - babysitters, especially great ones, can be very hard to come by! Now, CMEE hopes to make parents' lives a little less difficult by offering a roster of babysitters for parents to meet and consider. We encourage prospective babysitters, ages 15 and up, to complete our Babysitter Application Form and return it to CMEE's Front Desk. CMEE does not charge a fee for use of this service.
Payment is made directly by a family to the babysitter. CMEE does not have any role or involvement in such discussions or decisions, or in the payment or collection of any fees with respect to babysitting services. Limitation on liability can be viewed at the end of this newsletter.
Applications can be picked up at CMEE or call 631-537-8250 to request a copy via email.

Pizza & Pajama Night
Young visitors are invited to come to the Museum in their pajamas, eat pizza, hear a story read by a guest reader in CMEE's Library, and participate in a special art activity.
The book selection to be read is Julie Marke's "Thanks for Thanksgiving," a meaningful reminder about appreciating both the small moments and big pleasures in life. The book celebrates the joys of the season and everyday events that occur in a young child's life - from playdates, swings and slides to music, art and dancing - with a special focus on gratitude for family.
