Children's Museum of the East End - E-Newsletter August 09
Dear Friends,

"Oceans" of thanks to all who supported our CMEE Under the Sea Family Fair to benefit the Museum on July 25! With over 700 guests in attendance, it surpassed the Museum's expectations in every way - not merely in attendance - but also in fun and funds raised! We're already planning to make next year's Family Fair even better.  See photographs and read more below. We want to extend special thanks to our Event Committee, our corporate sponsors: Saunders & Associates, Bridgehampton National Bank, Cablevision, and AT Conference, and our media sponsor, Hamptons.com.

Summer is still very much in full swing here at CMEE with new sessions of creative classes and workshops starting this week, and more special events including CMEE's "Shop For A Playground Party" - an all-day Trunk Show with a terrific selection of noted NYC and Hamptons-based designers next Thursday, August 13. See details immediately below.

We hope to see you at CMEE soon (and often) this August!

Sincerely,

Stephen Long
Executive Director
Playground"Shop for a Playground Party"

Shopping for a playground isn't usually on most people's 'shopping list,' but it is high up on CMEE's 'wish list'!  The Museum is raising funds to install an outdoor playground on our property in response to a long-expressed community need. CMEE hopes to provide this vital community resource for families to enjoy in the Museum's 'back yard.'  And you can help!

On Thursday, August 13, from 10am-5pm, join us for a "Shop For A Playground Party" - a Trunk Show featuring noted New York City and Hamptons-based designers including:
Estella children's wear,
Isadora Story  cashmere for women,
Jillery home products and jewelry
Loyalhanna chic nursing wear,
Monogram Me monogrammed products, and
SoLUXE stationary.

Parents can also enjoy a delicious glass of French wine courtesy of Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa.

The Trunk Show will be up all day, so families can stop by any time for shopping 'fun' and Museum 'fun' - all in one location! Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to build a playground! We look forward to seeing you here on the 13th!

CMEE welcomed more people than ever before to the Museum for our first annual Under the Sea Family Fair. Guests enjoyed live entertainment in CMEE's Amphitheater by Laughing Pizza, Broadway Babies, Magician Arnie Kolodner, the Funky Divas, plus selections from "The Littlest Mermaid" performed by the Hampton Ballet Theatre School.

The Museum's grounds teemed with activity including pony rides, face painters, balloonologists, bouncy castles, a petting zoo (including goats, rabbits, and a pig), soccer, yoga, sea-themed art activities, and the new "Hamptons Tumblebus" - a mobile 'gym.' Pete Ambrose of the Seafood Shop provided a delicious kid- and parent-friendly menu including shrimp kabobs, mini lobster rolls, and "Poseidon" pizza bites. Fair-goers also decorated (and sampled) cupcakes and sea-horse shaped cookies from Eleni's, and cooled off with frozen treats from Belly's Sno-Balls and Tasti-D'Lite. And parents clearly enjoyed iced-coffees from the Hampton Coffee Company!

Special thanks to the event committee for their help and support in organizing the Fair. We're also grateful to our elected officials, including Southampton Town Supervisor Linda Kabot and Council Members Nancy Graboski and Chris Nuzzi who came out to support CMEE Under the Sea.

UndertheSeaAmphitheater Update
Last week, CMEE's amphitheater hosted hundreds of people for performances by Goat on a Boat Puppet Theater and Laughing Pizza. This week, Sara Jo Strickland' s Hampton Ballet Theatre School drew another capacity crowd for a truly wonderful performance of Prokofiev's classic, Peter and the Wolf.

The ballet was beautifully narrated by actress India Ennenga who has starred in the feature films The Women and Frost, among many other credits. She will be a junior at the St. Ann's School in New York. The Hampton Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Perea, performed the music.

The ballet featured young dancers ages 4 to 15.  Bravo to Sara Jo and her talented company - it was a memorable evening for CMEE!  We hope to see you next week for Goat on a Boat Puppet Theater on Tuesday, August 11 and the Transformation Show on Wednesday, August 12.
HamptonsTUMBLEBUS...next stop? CMEE

If you attended our Under the Sea Family Fair --- you surely couldn't miss the brightly painted Hamptons TUMBLEBUS in our driveway. Created by Michelle Kennedy and Cathy Wallick, the Hamptons TUMBLEBUS is a full-sized school bus that they have transformed into a mobile gym for children ages 2 and up, featuring gymnastic activities, bars, beam, vault, trampoline rings, climbing apparatus and more. Their goal was to create a safe, fun, educational and non-competitive environment - while raising self-esteem, confidence and the importance of physical fitness at an early age. The bus will offer gymnastics classes to schools, day care centers or libraries which lack the space, and it is also available for birthday parties, mini-camps and special events.

When we heard about the TUMBLEBUS and learned of the shared commitment to promoting wellness and physical activity for children, it was immediately clear we needed to see how we could partner! Look for the Hamptons TUMBLEBUS at CMEE this fall. Buckle up for fun ahead!
