Children's Museum of the East End - E-Newsletter April 09
Dear Friends of CMEE,

We want to hear from you! After several families asked CMEE to extend our current "Get Active!" Exhibit, we decided to ask our CMEE community for input on whether we should extend and enhance this indoor activity space for the summer months. Please click here to cast your vote, or share any comments. Thank you for your feedback and for helping CMEE meet the needs of families on the East End!

In the meantime - to celebrate spring, we are happy to host our second annual Mad Hatter Tea Party this Saturday, April 4. See the article below for details. We hope to see you and your friends here for a festive launch of the new season!
(and don't forget our monthly Pizza & Pajama Night this Friday!)

Happy Spring!

Sincerely,

Stephen Long
Executive Director
Sugar or milk in your tea?
...A very important date!

Mad Hatter: Would you like a little more tea?
Alice: Well, I haven't had any yet, so I can't very well take more.
March Hare: Ah, you mean you can't very well take less.
Mad Hatter: Yes. You can always take more than nothing.

Join us this Saturday, April 4th for our 2nd Annual "Mad Hatter Tea Party" to celebrate the start of Spring! In the spirit of this event, the traditional 'tea time' has been changed to morning - 10:30am to 12pm to be exact! - why wait all day for the fun to begin!? Come make a 'Mad Hatter Hat' (the 'Madder' the better!) design sculpted eggs, make spring collages,  have a scavenger hunt in CMEE's 'back yard' for fun treats and sweet surprises, and enjoy complimentary cookies, pink lemonade, and, of course, 'tea'!

Don't be late! Put some 'spring' in your step, have your friends meet you at CMEE this Saturday, and let the hunt begin!

Surprise arrival!
Spring arrived early at CMEE this year...we had a baby..."crab!" A surprise new resident  - a baby Blue Claw Crab, was spotted in our aquarium during a tour led by Stacy Myers of the Cornell Marine Program.  Said Myers, "The crab had to be removed  because it would be much happier in the climate of the Peconic Bay, where it has since been released".

The Blue Claw Crab, or "Callinectes Sapidus" (beautiful savory swimmer), a native to Long Island,  is one of the most common marine invertebrates in the Western Atlantic, found south of Cape Cod.

On your next visit to CMEE, come look at our aquarium...you never know what surprises nature brings!
CMEE draws support in the City

On Thursday March 5, over 150 guests came to support CMEE at our 2nd Annual "Ladies Who Lunch" Benefit at the Boathouse in Central Park, NYC.

The lunch  honored women who make a difference, and included a lively and interesting panel discussion and conversation with this years four honorees: Katie Brown, Food and Style Guru and President of Katie Brown Studios; Stacey Bendet Eisner: Owner/Designer, alice + olivia; Stefani Greenfield: Co-Founder/Co-Owner Scoop and Founder, My Next Act; Marci Klein; Producer, "Saturday Night Live", Executive Producer, NBC'S "30 Rock".   (Pictured above L to R: Stacey Bendet Eisner, Stefani Greenfield, Katie Brown, Marci Klein)

Moderators Jackie Mitchell and Sabrina Levine led the conversation, eliciting the panelists roads to their individual successes, and tips and tools they learned along the way to help juggle the joys and demands of parenthood and busy careers. (Pictured L to R: Jackie Mitchell, Stefani Greenfield, Sabrina Levine)

Each Honoree was presented with CMEE's 2009 "Making A Difference Award" by Steve Long. The Benefit helped raise funds for the Museum's Family Literacy Program.

To Your Health!
CMEE recently held a free Family Health Fair sponsored by East Hampton Healthcare Foundation and South Fork Community Health Initiative. Says Steve Long, Executive Director of CMEE, "We were delighted that the Museum could partner with these worthy organizations and provide a safe, comfortable environment for this Fair".

Presented in conjunction with the Museum's, Get Active! exhibit, the fair hosted numerous health practitioners from the Healthcare Foundation and Southampton Hospital who provided information in both English and Spanish on subjects such as breast cancer, diabetes, pediatric safety and preventive healthcare.
