Houston Street Two Step Returns

Cattle Drive and Houston Streel Stroll on Jan 29

2stepMosey on down to Houston Street on January 29, 2011 for the 2nd Annual Houston Street Two Step: Cattle Drive and Houston Street Stroll. Watch cowboys guide an impressive herd of Texas Longhorns down Houston Street, where only a trail existed 150 years ago, followed by a fun-filled parade.

The festivities continue with the second annual Houston Street Stroll. Parade guests will be invited to pick up a passport and participate in a "stroll" along Houston Street where local restaurants and shops will open their doors with special offers. Upon visiting a participating establishment, the traveler will receive a stamp on their passport. Once travelers fill their passport with stamps, they can use it as an entry to win fabulous door-prizes from the participating businesses. The first 100 completed passports to be returned will receive free rodeo grounds tickets to the 2011 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Fun and games for kids of all ages will also be offered, including authentic cowboys cooking from their chuck wagon over an open fire, barrel racing, musical entertainment and more.

Downtown goes blue to be green

Blue recycling cans around downtown ramp up green-friendly practices

Centro San Antonio and Downtown Alliance worked with the City of San Antonio to help order, design, and place 25 recycling cans around downtown.

The cans are the same 36 gallon model as the regular trash cans used downtown, except they are blue and have signage explaining what can be recycled: cans, plastic, and glass bottles.

The recycling cans were purchased and installed through funding provided by Centro San Antonio, the Public Improvement District.
