The Office of Planning has held several community meetings over the past weeks to discuss the rezoning of the South Moreland Avenue Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) Study which was adopted by the Atlanta City Council in July 2008.  This provided the opportunity for the various stakeholders to provide input on the uses and design guidelines for the proposed zoning regulations. The Office of Planning has reviewed the comments and concerns expressed by the stakeholders and has developed an amended ordinance for review, comment and/or approval. A copy of the amended ordinance with maps outlining the area can be found here.

The Office of Planning staff was present at the impacted NPUs September meeting providing a brief overview of the changes. Please note that additional meetings have been scheduled as follows:

Dikembe Mutombo visits EAKC

Checklist Image

On Tuesday, October 16th at 5:00pm, philanthropist, humanitarian, 18-year NBA veteran, and creator of the foundation that bears his name, Dikembe Mutombo will visit the East Atlanta Kids Club (EAKC).  During his visit, Mutumbo is expected to deliver a special message  to EAKC's children and to address questions .  And just MAYBE, if the kids ask politely, he may even remind them why "Man does not fly in the house of Mutombo."

Founded in 1997, the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation was chartered to improve the health, education and quality of life for the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  Beyond the many accolades and honors accumulated in the United States, Mutombo has established a state-of-the-art medical facility -- the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center -- in Kinshasa, capital city of his homeland, the Democratic Republic of Congo, where ready access to modern medical care is urgently needed.
Soup and Shop for Branan Towers

On Thursday, October 18th, Branan Towers will be hosting a soup-n-shop for the female residents of Branan Towers. This ministry enables each of the ladies at Branan Towers to "shop" for clothes as a gift. The majority of residents are elderly and unable to get out and do a lot of shopping.

Martha Brown United Methodist Church is collecting nice, used clothes for these ladies.  Items can be dropped off at the church, and please make sure items are in good usable condition.  We'll do the rest.
