Help Coan Set Up ItsTemporary Home
|
The new school year is about to begin and the teachers will be arriving at Coan Middle School's temporary location next week.
A volunteer day has been organized for Tuesday, July 31 to help to the school and its staff set up at the former East Lake Elementary school ( 145 Fourth Avenue SE, 30317). Work will start at 8:30 am at the school and even just a few hours will be helpful and greatly appreciated. School begins the following week, so the teachers and staff only have a few days to get the school ready for the students.
Join in creating a smooth transition for new and returning Copan Middle School students!

T-SPLOST - Be Informed! |
On July 31, 2012, Metro Atlanta voters will have the opportunity to decide on the 2012 Transportation Referendum, also known at the Transportation Special local Option Sales Tax (TPLOST).
The referendum is a one cent regional sales tax to fund transportation improvements throughout the state. If the referendum is approved the sales tax would fund about $8.5 billion in transportation improvements throughout the 10-county Atlanta region.
If passed, the referendum would impact transportation throughout the state for generations to come. For more information about TSPLOST including a full project list and interactive mapping, visit http://www.metroatlantatransportationreferendum.com/.

EACA - Call for Volunteers |
As EACA continues to expand within the community the organization is in need of two newly created roles that will allow the Association to reach new heights.
First, as EACA works with the City of Atlanta to finalize the details of our Adopt-a-Street partnership, the organization will be in need of a coordinator for this new campaign. In general, the position will manage the program to enlist volunteer groups, oversee the paperwork associated with each street and verify ongoing completions of monthly clean-ups. Second, to continue the existing programs and projects in the neighborhood such as the Brownwood Park fitness trail, emergency home repairs for seniors in need, performance art events and Branan Towers Bingo, just to name a few, as well as the addition of new ways EACA would like to help continue to make East Atlanta a wonderful place to live, the Association is looking for an individual who would like to make a difference by acquiring grants for these purposes. If either one of these new roles sounds like you, please email EACA's President, Lewis Cartee, at president@eaca.net.

Neighbor In Need |
Do you know an elderly neighbor that needs help with their house?
A Senior homeowner experiencing problems with heat/AC, electrical, plumbing or roof problems ?
If so, EACA Neighbor in Need would like to help if possible. EACA NiN provides free home repairs to low-income elderly homeowners living in East Atlanta.
EACA Neighbor in Need is also looking for volunteers and donations from those who want to give back to their community. Specifically, EACA NiN is looking for help finding and writing grants so we can help more people in our neighborhood.

How Will You Strut? |

The lazy days of summer are the perfect time to start thinking about how you and your group will participate in the East Atlanta Strut Parade on Saturday, September 15.
Paraders march, ride, sing, dance, dress up, dress down, bike and skate through the festival's cheering throng to compete for the coveted Strut trophies. This year, there's a new category: Best Celebration. It will go to the group with the most interesting way of marking a birthday, anniversary or other special event. Bring the party to the parade!
