2nd Annual Peach Jam at EAV Farmers Market

Checklist Image

Fresh harvest connoisseurs are invited to join Slow Food Atlanta along with the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market, the East Lake Farmers Market and the Grant Park Farmers Market for the second annual Peach Jam. A three-day celebration of all things Georgia peach-y, guests will enjoy an impressive range of delicacies featuring the beloved summer fruit.

Festivities will kick off on Thursday, June 28, at the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market when Atlanta's most celebrated mixologists gather and go head-to-head in the Peach Cocktail Contest. From 5:30 to 7 p.m., the bar keeps will serve up creative peach cocktails hoping to achieve "best cocktail" status as decided by a team of local judges. Event-goers can also sip on the libations and cast their vote for the "people's choice award," in addition to enjoying Farm Burger sliders and pours from a refreshing peach beer cask, compliments of Terrapin Beer Company.

From East Atlanta Village to East Lake, the stone fruit soiree continues on Saturday, June 30. Local contestants, amateurs and professional, will compete in the third annual Peachapalooza Cook-off.

The three-day peach extravaganza concludes on Sunday, July 1, when amateur and professional chefs empty out their bushel baskets for the Peach Cobbler Contest.  Guests can browse and buy the Market's fresh harvest along with peach breakfast sandwiches from Farm Burger while sampling an impressive variety of this iconic dessert baked up by local chefs.

Atlantans are welcome to join in the fun at all three events and participate in the peach-y contests, too. Those looking to compete can email slowfoodatl@gmail.com for complete details.

The lazy days of summer are the perfect time to start thinking about how you and your group will participate in the East Atlanta Strut Parade on Saturday, September 15

Paraders march, ride, sing, dance, dress up, dress down, bike and skate through the festival's cheering throng to compete for the coveted Strut trophies. This year, there's a new category: Best Celebration. It will go to the group with the most interesting way of marking a birthday, anniversary or other special event. Bring the party to the parade!

East Atlanta Security Patrol

EASP01For the week of June 17-23, six crimes have been reported thus far for Beat 612 in East Atlanta.  There have been three larcenies, including a scooter stolen from a driveway on East Side today that was not secured.  There have been two car break-ins, and one auto theft in the 500 block of Stokeswood between late Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Multiple burglaries were reported in the Ormewood Park area on June 19th.  An eyewitness believes they saw a dark colored late 90s Lexus being used in the commission of one burglary.  And a suspicious silver Impala was reported on Marbut on the morning of June 20th.  Under the circumstances, please scrutinize suspicious vehicles even more closely in the next week or so until we see if these burglars find their way into East Atlanta.

APD has now reported three consecutive weeks without a burglary for our Beat 612 in East Atlanta.  For the week ending June 16th, eight crimes were reported.  There were two aggravated assaults, a pedestrian robbery, four auto larcenies, and one non-auto larceny.  The one larceny not tied to a vehicle was the result of a beer stolen from the East Atlanta Supermarket.  The man was arrested and charged with shoplifting.  The pedestrian robbery was near the corner of May and Flat Shoals as two women walked home from the Midway at about 2:40 am on June 10th.  Since the EASP officer spotted a vehicle used in three burglaries one morning several months ago, leading to their quick capture, burglaries have virtually stopped in East Atlanta.  Obviously this is somewhat of a coincidence, but we're happy to finally see burglaries becoming a rare occurrence in our neighborhood.  The last reported burglary was back on May 22nd in the 1200 block of Bouldercrest.  Prior to that, there was a burglary on May 18th on Van Epps that was most likely committed by an acquaintance, and the last one before that was May 1st on Blake.

East Atlanta Crime Mapping
