Why Should I Join EACA?
|
As the leading organization that represents every community member within East Atlanta, EACA is reaching past the normal operations of your typical community association. From helping seniors in need of emergency home repairs with Neighbor in Need and facilitating a sense of togetherness for our families through the Parents Network to creating a safer and more pleasing neighborhood under such committees as Parks & Greenspace, Beautification, Arts & Culture and Public Safety while at the same time working with the City for the betterment of East Atlanta with important issues such as transportation, land use & zoning and education, the East Atlanta Community Association is an all volunteer organization that needs the support of citizens through ideas, muscles and...money.
As a member of the East Atlanta Community Association you are showing your support for not only EACA, but our wonderful neighborhood through a small annual $10 per household or business token of commitment. In addition, members are given the right to vote on important issues at monthly meetings as well as receive discounts on events administered by EACA at different times during the year. While your $10 does not bring any further obligation on your part please take a look at the many different ways for all neighbors to get involved, and find something that feels right for you.
For more information about EACA including ways to volunteer and to make your 2012 commitment, please visit the EACA website.

Holiday Branan Towers Bingo
| It's that time of year again, and East Atlanta is planning the annual Holiday Bingo session for the residents of Branan Towers, 1200 Glenwood Ave., SE. For those unfamiliar, the regular monthly sessions usually just involve light snacks during the games. In December, we try to have a big meal for them, and we get volunteers to help serve. Thanks to the local boy scout troop, we already have some cash raised for the main course (we usually do fried chicken; it's easier on a senior's digestion than some of the other options) and the Scouts will be available for serving duty. What we're hoping for is a replay of some past EAV generosity - a potluck of sides and stuff to go with the chicken. A rough idea of a menu:
- Chicken - This is covered.
- Sides (doesn't have to be all of these, just looking for good holiday fare that the Seniors would like and that is easy/economical for a volunteer to make):
- Mashed Potatoes
- Mac-n-Cheese
- Dressing
- Beans or greens
- Rolls/Bread
- Drinks (we usually do soda/tea/lemonade)
- Dessert (cookies, cakes, whatever)
We'll have all the napkins, plates, cups, plasticware, etc. EACA also provides the prize money, but if anyone wants to donate additional prizes (local gift certificates, whatever; we've had one EAVer who's often donated jars of her homemade fig preserves), we're always happy to augment the prizes in the holiday session. The date of the fete is Tuesday, December 20 - 6:00 p.m. If you''re interested in whipping up some food and/or donating your time to serve, e-mail dennis.madsen@att.net. I know we're all busy this time of year, and that in these rough times we have less to give and more folks in need. This is just an opportunity to bring a little holiday cheer to some of our neighbors, folks we often see around the 'hood but perhaps we have never gotten to meet.
