Looking for Leaders

EACA seeks new leadership for its President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer positions.  The current elected officers have all reached the limit of their terms in office. If you are interested in one of these exciting and meaningful positions, please contact EACA Nominating Committee Chairperson, Laird Ruth. These four officer positions will be elected by the community at the December 13th EACA Monthly Meeting.

Through 11 committees, EACA gets the business of the community done. If you have an interest in participating in or leading one of the below committees, please contact EACA President, Austin Dickson. Committee chairpersons are appointed by the EACA President. The 11 Committees of EACA are:

  • Arts & Culture
  • Beautification
  • Communications
  • Education
  • Events
  • Neighbor in Need
  • Parents Network
  • Parks & Greenspace
  • Public Safety
  • Recycle EAV
  • Transportation
Welcome Recycle EAV

Checklist ImageLast Tuesday, November 8, by a unanimous community vote, EACA welcomed Recycle EAV to be a part of its organization. Founded in 2009 to address the massive amounts of glass being thrown into landfills by East Atlanta bars and restaurants, Recycle EAV raised the needed funds and established relationships with Conex Recycling. Over the past 24 months, Recycle EAV has made certain that many tons of glass has been recycled in East Atlanta. Kate Crosby, the leader of Recycle EAV, is excited to now be a committee member of EACA and help Recycle EAV to expand its presence and impact in the East Atlanta community. For now, Recycle EAV will be a program of EACA, in addition to its work in many other areas of the community.

Zone 6 Holiday Appreciation!

Checklist Image

Various neighborhoods in Zone 6 are pooling resources for a memorable Thanksgiving Day dinner for our offices in Zone 6.

The plan is to have a catered meal delivered for each of the three shifts at the precinct. This awesome idea helps make sure every office working the holiday gets a good meal, and it means that we don't have to do the leg work to sign up volunteers to cook and deliver the meals ourselves! Virginia Highlands is coordinating the efforts and will select restaurants in the Zone 6 area, so it helps support our local businesses.

If you'd like to pitch in for this event, please use the PayPal link on the EACA site by November 15 and designate the donation is for Zone 6.  Minimum donation is $5.  Each neighborhood is donating a minimum of $100.

We can also use some volunteer hosts/hostesses from different neighborhoods for setup, serving and cleanup. Contact John Wolfinger at safety@vahi.org if you would like to be hands-on with your support of our precinct.

We will be joining our other participating friends in Morningside, Inman Park, Edgewood, Poncey-Highlands, the SAND Communities, Piedmont Heights, and Lake Claire, to name a few.
 Giving Thanks Dinner
Checklist ImagePlease join us in celebrating this special farmers market community with a Giving Thanks potluck dinner. For the last official market, we will close down an hour early and share a family-style meal together.

Highlights to include:

  • Annual EAVFM Turkey Pardon at 7:00
  • Special dishes prepared by Steven Satterfield of Miller Union and our own Chef Seth and vendors
  • Live music by Lacuna M
  • After party at the Midway Pub
  • Community love!

Please bring a dish to share and serving ware, and please include the recipe. We'll provide water, tea, disposable plates, cups, and utensils but if you can bring your own, please help us cut down on waste.

We're looking forward to sharing a meal with you all to celebrate this special community...

East Atlanta Security Patrol Update

News Updated November 10, 2011

For the week of November 6 - 12, two crimes have been reported, both in the 1100 block of Fayetteville Road.  One was the theft of a catalytic converter and the other a burglary on Tuesday morning.  However, there have been a number of burglaries on Beat 609 (including four this week) and an increase in reports of suspicious vehicles in East Atlanta.  A lot of the activity seems to be occurring in the 2-7 pm timeframe.  On Tuesday, the EASP put out an alert for a gold Chevy Tahoe or similar with heavily tinted windows and tag BII 7054. This vehicle was carrying four black males when seen in the Village Walk subdivision twice between 9 am and noon.  It may well be tied to the Fayetteville Road burglary and another burglary around 8:30 that same morning in unincorporated Dekalb county off of Fayetteville near Flat Shoals
