Neighbor in Need
| EACA would like to express our deepest gratitude to the community for supporting the Neighbor in Need pumpkin sale in October. In addition we would also like to thank The Midway Pub for hosting the pumpkin carving contest, the East Atlanta Parents Network for organizing the pumpkin painting at the Farmers Market and to the East Atlanta Beer Festival for their generous grant.
Ever wonder where the dollars you give to this great initiative go? Just this past week Neighbor in Need helped out yet another community member by replacing the roof at 488 Monument.
Next Neighbor in Need Meeting at The Midway: Thursday Nov 10th 7pm. Open to anyone who would like to attend. |

Zone 6 Holiday Appreciation!
|
Various neighborhoods in Zone 6 are pooling resources for a memorable Thanksgiving Day dinner for our offices in Zone 6.
The plan is to have a catered meal delivered for each of the three shifts at the precinct. This awesome idea helps make sure every office working the holiday gets a good meal, and it means that we don't have to do the leg work to sign up volunteers to cook and deliver the meals ourselves! Virginia Highlands is coordinating the efforts and will select restaurants in the Zone 6 area, so it helps support our local businesses. If you'd like to pitch in for this event, please use the PayPal link on the EACA site by November 15 and designate the donation is for Zone 6. Minimum donation is $5. Each neighborhood is donating a minimum of $100. We can also use some volunteer hosts/hostesses from different neighborhoods for setup, serving and cleanup. Contact John Wolfinger at safety@vahi.org if you'd like to be hands-on with your support of our precinct. We will be joining our other participating friends in Morningside, Inman Park, Edgewood, Poncey-Highlands, the SAND Communities, Piedmont Heights, and Lake Claire, to name a few. |
Burgess-Peterson's Garden Grows
| Grab your shovel and join the Burgess-Peterson Academy gardeners on Saturday, November 19, at 10 a.m. as we install a small woodland garden near the orchard behind the school. An East Atlanta neighbor has generously donated a collection of plants that will expand our learning opportunities and bring more beneficial insects and wildlife to the garden. If you have questions, please e-mail BPAgarden@gmail.com.

East Atlanta Security Patrol Update
|
News Updated November 3, 2011 For the week of October 30 - November 5, three crimes have been reported. There was an armed robbery on October 30th around 2:45 am on May Avenue. A man was attacked by a group of seven black males and had his wallet and cell phone taken. Fortunately his injuries were all minor. There was also a report of a stolen license plate. On Wednesday afternoon just before 3:00 pm there was a burglary in the 400 block of Pasley. Burglaries are suddenly up in Zone 6, especially on our neighboring beat of 609, so this may be coming from the same crew. Entry through a rear door seems to be common to most of these burglaries. October crime data has been compiled. There were 34 crimes reported in October 2011 for Beat 610 compared to 33 in September 2011. September crime was down 30% versus September of 2010, while October crime was down 19% versus October 2010. There were 9 burglaries in both September and October of 2011, and that total of 18 is the lowest for these two months since we started tracking crime in 2006. There were 28 burglaries in the same two month period in 2010. And the total of 67 crimes for these two months is also the lowest in this six year period, compared to 89 last year. This is a good sign of improvement, since these are normally the two worst crime months of the year in East Atlanta. To learn more about the East Atlanta Security Patrol, view updated news and notes or to enroll, visit the EASP website. There is a 50% discount for longtime residents and those 65+. To qualify, you must have lived at the same address for 20 years or be over age 65. We also have a 20% discount for members of an APD-sanctioned Neighborhood Watch. Please contact us if you're interested in setting up a Neighborhood Watch on your street. If you have additional questions, please direct them to easp610@gmail.com, or call EASP Organizer Myron Polster at 404-954-1568.
