 Greetings!

From pumpkins and EAV-O-WEEN to fall festivals and magicians, there are so many ways to get involved and enjoy the East Atlanta Community.

Good Reading!

A Big Thanks from EACA!
The East Atlanta Community Association would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the
and their East Atlanta Community Group for their very kind donation to Neighbor in Need.

In the form of an Oktoberfest Party East Atlanta residents transferred a neighbor's backyard into an authentic German bier garden for some fantastic Oktoberfest home brews.  Through the kindness of their friends and fellow neighbors they were able to raise $1,030 for Neighbor in Need.

What a wonderful and thoughtful expression of support for the East Atlanta Community!!

Neighbor in Need Pumpkin Sale
Every Thursday in October EACA's Neighbor in Need program will be selling pumpkins at the EAVFM from 4-8pm.  Please show your support by purchasing a pumpkin from $5-$25 in various sizes including decorative gourds. All money raised will be used to complete emergency home repairs for senior neighbors in our East Atlanta Community.

East Atlanta Parents Network
Thanks to everyone for coming out to the All-Ages Playgroup on Saturday, and for all the work that went into pulling off another great one! A special big thanks to the East Atlanta Beer Festival for the ability to provide a wonderful way for EA families to come together.

Also coming October 20th to the EAV Farmer's Market: a pumpkin painting event, from 5-8pm, in conjunction with the Neighbor in Need pumpkin sale..

The East Atlanta Parents Network is an Initiative of EACA formed to create opportunities for parents (and their children) in and around East Atlanta to meet and connect.  EAPN believes that by establishing strong connections among the families in our neighborhood, we make a healthier, safer, stronger community for our children.

If you would like to learn more about EAPN, join an existing playgroup or start a new one please contact EAPN's chair Debbie Cartee
.
 Also for ongoing EAPN updates check out EAPN's Facebook page.

Slow Food Atlanta Screening of the Greenhorns
Celebrate Food Day with Slow Food Atlanta's Young Farmer Mixer and Screening of the Greenhorns.

The Greenhorns documentary film, completed after almost 3 years in production, explores the lives of America's young farming community - its spirit, practices, and needs. It is the filmmaker's hope that by broadcasting the stories and voices of these young farmers, we can build the case for those considering a career in agriculture - to embolden them, to entice them, and to recruit them into farming. For more information on the film, please visit www.thegreenhorns.net

Join Slow Food Atlanta for this screening and farmer mixer to celebrate Food Day on October 24th at 7:30 at the Plaza Theater. Enjoy tapas and a cash bar at Pura Vida afterwards.  This is an inspriational film about young farmers and the proceeds go to support the EAV and Grant Park Farmers Markets' double food stamps program -  a platform that makes farming possible for a dozen young farmers here in Atlanta.

MARTA I-20 East Transit Initiative Survey
The purpose of this survey is to allow the public to provide input on the final alternatives being considered as part of the I-20 East Transit Initiative. These six alternatives are being evaluated to provide rapid transit service for the I-20 East Corridor. In addition to transit alignments, the following transit technologies are being evaluated:

* Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

* Light Rail Transit (LRT)

* Heavy Rail Transit (HRT)

Public input is an important consideration in the selection of the most appropriate alternative for the corridor. The result of this evaluation will be the Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA).

This survey will present fact sheets for each of the Screen 2 Alternatives. Once all the information has been presented, you will be asked to rate each alternative and provide your comments.

This linked survey will be available for completion until Sunday, October 30, 2011. Thank you for your participation.

Bulbs for Burgess
Attention gardeners! Fall is here and that means it's time to think about spring flowers. Burgess-Peterson Academy students will be planting bulbs in gardening class, which means we need about 500 bulbs. Now is the perfect time to buy or order for fall planting, so please consider getting a few extra to donate to the students. You can deliver them to the school office or contact Michelle Rice and we'll arrange to pick them up.

Thank you!
