Have you been looking for ways to get involved in your community?  If so please check out our website for a list of Committees and Initiatives.

In addition, Branan Towers has two activities that are in need of additional volunteers.
  1. Branan Towers Bingo is an ongoing monthly event, and for more info please email Dennis Madsen.
  2. Branan Towers is also in need of two bus drivers for weekday, day-time hours to drive residents to different places nearby.  Drivers can be flexible in their schedules, and must have a clean driving record.  If interested please email Joan Field.
Furthermore, the Friends of the East Atlanta Library is in need of volunteers the day of the Strut (September 17) to help with their annual book sale.  (Details on the actual event are below.)
  • One person to work from 1-3 pm as a cashier.
  • Three people to be on the " put away crew" from 5-6 pm.
  • Two or three more people with trucks who can help haul books back on Sept. 24th
  • Book sorters needed, prior to the event, at  the Meeting Room at the library from 9:30-noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through September 9th.

Drama in the Village - TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE

New York Times Best Selling Author, Neil Gaiman's "Snow, Glass, Apples" retells the tale of Snow While from the vantage point of the stepmother. As the queen's

suspicions of her vampire-like stepdaughter begin to grow, her attempts to protect all that is dear to her unravel when she fails to trust her own instincts. A shocking tale of survival in which nothing is as it seems.

Director Lisa Stock invites spectators to enter a dreamlike Spring Fair to witness a dark tale of blood, hunger, and mistrusting your instincts. Neil Gaiman's "Snow, Glass, Apples" turns the story of Snow White upside down allowing the wicked stepmother to tell her side of the tale. Audiences will literally walk into the fairy tale and stand side by side with the characters. Staged inside the East Atlanta Village Farmer's Market, this is no Renaissance Festival, but a door to a wicked carnival of innocence gone wrong. Dancers create the forest, which the audience has to pass through before entering the market; Snow White's heart dangles above - beating in haunting memory; and other surreal images bring to life this tale of trusting ones own instincts at the darkest of times.

Director Lisa Stock will conduct a Q&A with the audience after the performance on August 25th. Due to adult themes and simulated violence, parents strongly cautioned. However, the Sunday 6:00pm performance on the 28th will be "family friendly" with children under 14 admitted free with a parent ticket.

Friday Food for Firefighters

Hello Dear Neighbors,

Thanks again to all who have contributed to FFF (Friday Food for Firefighters)  You have seen the blurb each week in the newsletter but now I am writing to stimulate your summer participation.  Summertime can be very full and time and energy may be going in numerous directions.  That's all very understandable.   During the winter your generosity overflowed, and meals were supplied to our Firefighters on a weekly basis. And, believe me, it was very much appreciated...as you likely witnessed yourself if you are a provider.  But now that has diminished.  If there is any way you can consider providing a meal to our firefighters on a Friday night this summer (and beyond), please consider doing so. The Firefighters have loved this attention and have so appreciated the food every Friday.

This
past Friday I received a call from one of the team and had to say that no food was being supplied once again.  If there is any way you can consider participating please do so.  A meal does not have to be elaborate.  It is whatever you feel moved to do.  One week I ordered pizza for them when I was unable to cook.  Another possibility is teaming up with others to make it easier all around.

I hope to talk to local restaurants to see if they will also
participate.  If you have the inclination, perhaps you could mention this to personnel at places you patronize.  I can do the leg work with them if you hear a positive response.  Please contact me with any questions, suggestions or concerns and thanks so much for considering being a participant and for those of you who have already given so
graciously.
