What is Happening with Neighbor in Need
EACA would like to give a great big thanks to the Village Church of East Atlanta who gave our Neighbor in Need program a check for $3898.

The Neighbor in Need initiative is a grassroots, relationship-based, block-by-block effort to complete emergency home repairs for East Atlanta neighbors.  Through generous contributions such as this one EACA is able to continue these good works.  If you would like to help others in your community through a donation please visit the EACA website.

If you are interested in learning more about Neighbor in Need or would like to volunteer your time to this wonderful cause the next meeting is August 10 @ 7pm at Midway Pub.

Lastly we are in need of contractors looking to help, primarily electricians, plumbers and carpenters.  While we are looking to form a partnership with contractors that will allow us to provide as much support to as many people these are for-profits projects.  Our hopes are to exchange superior pricing for community goodwill advertisement.

For questions please email neighborinneed@eaca.net

Update: Friday Food for Firefighters

Hello Dear Neighbors,

Thanks again to all who have contributed to FFF (Friday Food for Firefighters)  You have seen the blurb each week in the newsletter but now I am writing to stimulate your summer participation.  Summertime can be very full and time and energy may be going in numerous directions.  That's all very understandable.   During the winter your generosity overflowed, and meals were supplied to our Firefighters on a weekly basis. And, believe me, it was very much appreciated...as you likely witnessed yourself if you are a provider.  But now that has diminished.  If there is any way you can consider providing a meal to our firefighters on a Friday night this summer (and beyond), please consider doing so. The Firefighters have loved this attention and have so appreciated the food every Friday.

This
past Friday I received a call from one of the team and had to say that no food was being supplied once again.  If there is any way you can consider participating please do so.  A meal does not have to be elaborate.  It is whatever you feel moved to do.  One week I ordered pizza for them when I was unable to cook.  Another possibility is teaming up with others to make it easier all around.

I hope to talk to local restaurants to see if they will also
participate.  If you have the inclination, perhaps you could mention this to personnel at places you patronize.  I can do the leg work with them if you hear a positive response.  Please contact me with any questions, suggestions or concerns and thanks so much for considering being a participant and for those of you who have already given so
graciously.

Drama in the Village

New York Times Best Selling Author, Neil Gaiman's "Snow, Glass, Apples" retells the tale of Snow While from the vantage point of the stepmother. As the queen's

suspicions of her vampire-like stepdaughter begin to grow, her attempts to protect all that is dear to her unravel when she fails to trust her own instincts. A shocking tale of survival in which nothing is as it seems.

Director Lisa Stock invites spectators to enter a dreamlike Spring Fair to witness a dark tale of blood, hunger, and mistrusting your instincts. Neil Gaiman's "Snow, Glass, Apples" turns the story of Snow White upside down allowing the wicked stepmother to tell her side of the tale. Audiences will literally walk into the fairy tale and stand side by side with the characters. Staged inside the East Atlanta Village Farmer's Market, this is no Renaissance Festival, but a door to a wicked carnival of innocence gone wrong. Dancers create the forest, which the audience has to pass through before entering the market; Snow White's heart dangles above - beating in haunting memory; and other surreal images bring to life this tale of trusting ones own instincts at the darkest of times.

Director Lisa Stock will conduct a Q&A with the audience after the performance on August 25th. Due to adult themes and simulated violence, parents strongly cautioned. However, the Sunday 6:00pm performance on the 28th will be "family friendly".

East Atlanta Security Patrol Update

News Updated July 31.

There are two major alerts out as of July 31st where APD needs the help of the community.  First, please be on the lookout for a thin African-American male, late 40s or early 50s, riding on a green bicycle.  This man goes by the name of Milton.  He is believed to live with his Mother on Stokeswood.  If you think you know who this man is and his address, please call the EASP at 404-954-1568

The second alert is for a brand new, shiny red Toyota Echo, tag BSM5479.  This car has been actively casing houses in the area and an immediate call to 911 and the EASP is warranted if this vehicle should be seen.

The week of May 29 - June 4 has been burglary-free thus far.  However, there was a pedestrian robbery in the Village just before 1 am on the 29th.  Two young women were talking in their car when two men simultaneously tried to enter their vehicle.  No weapon was used.  Both had their cell phones taken and one had their wallet taken.  The woman on the passenger side resisted and was punched in the face, cutting her lip.  Perpetrators were both described as thin with dreads and ballcaps, about 5'8" and 6'1".  The one perpetrator lost his red Cincinnati cap while fleeing the scene.  Other crimes this week include not paying for gas after a declined credit card, and some money and a check stolen from an apartment, which appears to have been an inside job by someone with a key.  There was also a car break-in in the 600 block of Brownwood on the 31st at 2:15 pm, with the perpetrator being apprehended in possession of the laptop from the car along with credit cards stolen in other vehicle break-ins.
