EACA Adds Art to the EAVFM
|
New in 2011, EACA's Arts and Culture Committee has lined up quite a few artists to perform at the Farmers Market. Maria (pictured) of the Vauxhall Garden Variety Players performed last Thursday.
On June 30, a street magician and juggler will perform, followed in July with a week-long evening performance of Neil Gaiman's Snow, Glass, Apples - a dark reinterpretation of the Snow White fairy tale, directed and produced by In By The Eye productions.
If you know a musical (or other) act who would like to perform at the Market, please contact Lori vanVoorhis, the Arts and Culture Committee Chairperson |

Friday Food for Firefighters
|
Since early November 2010, your neighbors have provided a home-cooked meal for firefighters at Station 13 every Friday night. We're calling it Friday Food for Firefighters, or FFF, since we love acronyms. If you would like to provide a meal for four to six firefighters some Friday, please check out the web-based scheduler:
- Password: friday
- Click "Edit"
- Sign up for a date with your name and meal
- Click "save this version"
If you have questions, please contact Beth-Ann Buitekant, who is overseeing the schedule. Beth has lived in East Atlanta since 1984. Having suffered from losing her home to a fire many years ago she would often think about the firefighters working there. After supplying treats at various times, she realized she wanted to do more with this program being the result.
Please consider getting involved because the more people signed up the less effort it will take on any one person. So, if you have the ability to provide food one Friday evening on occasion please sign up. Meals should be delivered between 5:00 and 5:30 pm, and the firefighters have requested no pork products. This new program is an easy way to literally serve your community. |
Give Your Landscape the Attention it Deserves!
|
If you or someone you know has an eye-catching landscape, enter it in the EAST ATLANTA YARD OF THE MONTH competition.
The EACA Beautification Committee would like to recognize the efforts of residents within the East Atlanta community, who demonstrate a clear and consistent desire to maintain or improve their respective properties above normal expectations.
Yards may be nominated by anyone who appreciates a well-maintained landscape, including the homeowner, his or her friends or landscapers. To nominate a deserving yard, simply submit a photo, along with the property address, and your contact information to beautification@eaca.net.
Judges are looking for visually appealing, functional landscapes that include a variety of plants, trees and shrubs. Yards must be within the East Atlanta community. Potential YOM winners are judged solely on the appearance of the properties front yard as viewed from the street.
For questions, please contact Kevin Spigener (678) 438-6462 or email beautification@eaca.net.

EAV Farmers Market Peach Jam
| Come sample all things peach at the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market on Thursday June 30th and stick around for the grand event - a Peach Cocktail Mix-Off at the Midway Pub.
Chef Terry from Farm Burger will be grilling up Riverview Farms beef burgers on H&F buns (all proceeds go towards education programs...) with a peach compote and local goat cheese. EAVFM Assistant Makes the New York Times!
| Some teenagers search for jobs by asking their parents' friends. Others submit résumé after résumé online. And then there is Cameron Stephens's approach: work until they pay you.
Mr. Stephens, 17, a shy high school student in Atlanta, just started showing up at the job he wanted - at a local farmers' market. He had never picked a vegetable, having always lived within city limits. He did not know what "organic" meant. But he drove by the weekly East Atlanta Village Farmers Market last summer and thought it "seemed like a cool place to work."
For more...
The Farmers Market also wanted to share with you a little video of the effect your funding has already had on the market - thanks for your support!
