Thanks to all the volunteers and elves who made the East Atlanta Santa Fest a great success!  Through this fun event the elves raised $1,288 for the East Atlanta Kids Club.

EACA Election of Officers
EACA will hold elections for officers at its December 14th Meeting.  If you are interested in an officer position or interested in representing East Atlanta at NPU-W, contact Nominating Committee Chairperson, Henry Bryant (404-377-6148).  If you are interested in participating on a Committee or Initiative of EACA, please contact Austin Dickson (678-772-3736).
EACA Monthly Meeting
The December 14th EACA Monthly Meeting is the annual holiday potluck.  So come enjoy the evening with your fellow neighbors by bringing your favorite side dish while EACA provides the entree and drinks.  Hope to see you at Branan Towers at 7pm.
Interested in getting in the best shape of your life?
Here's a contest that is open to anyone who has never attended a FitWit camp.  One grand prize winner and one runner up winner will be chosen for both Grant Park and Decatur.  Contestants must submit a 500-700 word essay on why they really need FitWit.  To submit your essay, please paste your entry as a comment to our "FREE FitWit" blog post - http://fitwit-grantpark.ning.com/profiles/blogs/its-that-time-again for the Grant Park area or http://fitwit-decatur.ning.com/profiles/blogs/its-that-time-again for the Decatur area. 

Entries will be posted on the FitWit blogs and current campers and Facebook friends will vote on the most worthy contestants.  Deadline: December 6, 2010. Votes will be tallied and the winners will be announced at are annual banquet!

Our mission...is to create equitable access to cycling by providing affordable bicycle maintenance, services and education.

Our shop...provides a central forum for sharing equipment, materials, and expertise, and facilitates affordable, practical, hands-on support for cyclists of all ages and skill levels.

Riding a bike should be comfortable, pleasurable, and practical.  You do not need to sacrifice one of these characteristics to satisfy the other two. Come out to our next
Sopo class, Monday, December 6 at 7:30 PM at the shop, on bike fitment to find out how to make your bike right for you.  In this class we will teach you how to adjust your saddle positioning and controls to maximize comfort and control on your bicycle. We will also show you how to change out stems, saddles, handlebars, grips and bar tape to suit your needs and wants on a bike.  Donation suggested.  Bring Your Own Bike.
Refuse To Be A Victim Crime Prevention Seminar
Safe Atlanta For Everyone (SAFE) and
Martha Brown United Methodist Church are pleased to offer a Refuse To Be A Victim(R) crime-prevention seminar for up to 35 participants.  If you have been looking for information and insights about how to make your community safer and stronger, this is the seminar to sign up for.  SAFE's volunteer instructor will be teaching the class for only the cost of materials -- only $5 per person!

Location: Martha Brown United Methodist Church, 468 Moreland Avenue SE

Learn methods to avoid dangerous situations and prevent criminal confrontations while covering a number of important topics:
  • Home Security
  • Technology Security
  • Automobile Security
  • Personal Safety
  • Personal Protection Devices (non-lethal)
  • Self-Defense Classes
Seminar participants are presented with a variety of common-sense crime prevention and personal safety strategies and devices they may integrate into their daily lives. The seminar is not a hands-on self-defense class, and content regarding personal protection devices and self-defense classes is limited to discussing options and how to go about evaluating them for inclusion in a personal safety plan. Tens of thousands of men and women have benefited from the program's life-saving message and law enforcement agencies and state governments nationwide have endorsed the program.

Home for the Holiday Pet Adoption Event

Fulton County Animal Services will hold a Home for the Holidays pet adoption Event at the shelters location 860 Marietta Blvd Atlanta.  We will have more than 100 homeless pets available for adoption.


Saturday, December 11, 2010 10 a.m. to 4:p.m.


Vendor's, raffles, bake sale, low cost microchips, asks a vet booth, ask the trainer's booth, rabies vaccinations 500 free Fulton County license tags, special guest Santa Clause, and pictures with your pet with Santa Clause.  In addition, attendees will be able to register their pet to be spayed or neutered through the County's SNAP (Spay Neuter & Assistance) Program.

BeltLine Quarterly Briefing
What: Atlanta BeltLine Quarterly Briefing - **Please Note** The date has been changed from December 2 to December 16.

 Neighbor in Need is Taking Off
EACA's Neighbor in Need initiative has received a $5,000 cash grant and a $5,000 matching grant.  If it raises $5,000 independently, there will be $15,000 to help more neighbors in need. Recently, volunteers with the initiative have received:
  • $1,300 from the pumpkin sale at the Farmers' Market
  • $800 from Councilmember Archibong's budget
  • $500 from The Porch Press
  • $362 from Martha Brown United Methodist Church

 East Atlanta Security Patrol
To learn more about the East Atlanta Security Patrol, view updated news and notes or to enroll, visit the EASP website. There is a 50% discount for longtime residents and those 65+. To qualify, you must have lived at the same address for 20 years or be over age 65. We also have a 20% discount for members of an APD-sanctioned Neighborhood Watch. Please contact us if you're interested in setting up a Neighborhood Watch on your street.
