 Greetings!

EACA Logo
Hello,

Get your costume ready for EAV-O-Ween! There's a host of activities, from spooky to kooky, this week in East Atlanta.

Enjoy!
EACA Public Safety
EACA's Public Safety Committee is looking for a neighbor with some technology skills!  For a few years, an EACA volunteer helped our community crime reporter map out monthly activity within Beat 610 (East Atlanta).  That volunteer has since moved from the neighborhood.  If you think this 1-2 hour, monthly commitment is something you'd be willing to tackle, please contact [email protected].

Burgess-Peterson Academy Organic Garden
Thanks so much to all who came out to work in the garden Saturday. We replanted the butterfly garden, built a giant cold frame and finished mulching and adding seating to the outdoor classroom.  For more pictures please visit the BPA Garden Facebook page

We'll be putting a fence around the cold frame soon, so look for another request for volunteers.

For more information or to volunteer please contact Michelle Rice or Adam Waterson
Neighbor in Need is Taking Off
EACA's Neighbor in Need program is providing services and taking names!

In July, an elderly couple - 37-year residents of East Atlanta - were interviewed, and after inspection, a leaking roof, faulty electrical and failing HVAC systems were detected.
In August, Coolray fixed the HVAC for $350 and at no cost to the homeowners. Neighbor in Need has solicited bids for the roof and electrical repairs, which will be complete by the end of the year.

Donations from organizations and individuals are coming in! You might have seen members of the Neighbor in Need crew selling pumpkins at the East Atlanta Village Farmers' Market. You can buy a small pumpkin for $5 and large ones for $15. A local retailer has joined the effort, so if you miss the Thursday market, you can still buy a pumpkin to support low-income seniors at Urban Cannibals as well as at The Midway Pub's pumpkin carving contest on October 27th at 8pm.

Neighbor in Need has received a $5,000 matching grant. If we raise $5,000, we'll actually have $10,000 to help more of our neighbors. You may donate to Neighbor in Need on EACA's website on this page; all donations are tax deductible.
 Sopo Bicycle Coop
Our mission...is to create equitable access to cycling by providing affordable bicycle maintenance, services and education.

Our shop...provides a central forum for sharing equipment, materials, and expertise, and facilitates affordable, practical, hands-on support for cyclists of all ages and skill levels.

This Monday, October 25, is our next Volunteer Orientation at the shop at 7PM.  If you haven't already attended orientation come on out and learn the dynamics of the shop and how to help people out the Sopo way!  Becoming a volunteer also gives you access to our Volunteer Night- a time to work on your own ride without all the usual open shop craziness.

We love you and can always use your help!
Public Art - FLUX Projects
FLUX Projects, a public art nonprofit, presents Momentary Performances in East Atlanta!  Momentary Performances stems from Lee Walton's interest in the subtle, everyday actions of public life.  Through the simple of use of vinyl text installed in public space, everyday actions are formalized, thus taking on a new life.  Through this amplification, intimate everyday occurrences become celebrated events and blur the line between real-life and theater.

We are holding a series of public town hall meetings in an effort to inform you about key elements related to on-street parking operations, state and municipal parking regulations, and the City's plan to further assist the community with acclimating to the program.  The next meeting is at the Atlanta Zoo, 800 Cherokee Ave. SE, October 28th at 7pm.

Recycle EAV
Recycle EAV is proud to inform the East Atlanta Community of our recently approved grant application from the EABF!  This grant will fund one year of free recycling for the EAV businesses, as well provide a generous merchandising budget to help earn further funds for the program.  Thank you EABF for your amazing support!  We would also like to thank EACA, EABA, our many local businesses who sponsored the creation of Recycle EAV T-shirts, and all of the neighbors that have helped this program grow roots and thrive.  You are doing great things for the quality of your neighborhood and environment!

RecycleEAV is not going to rest for a minute on raising more money for the program.  In fact, this grant is merely encouraging our efforts to gain momentum and insure the longevity and eventual expansion of this program to other areas of the Village.  We are planning a month long benefit in January hosted by the Flatiron and sponsored by PBR.  This benefit will include an opening and closing event, raffles, Recycle EAV t-shirt giveaways, can crushing contests, and more!  Oh, and of course visits from our one and only Trash Troll, who you might have seen representing Recycle EAV in the Little 5 Points Halloween Parade recently.  Stay tuned for further details and to find how you help your neighborhood stay green!

For further informtion email Kate Crosby or visit Recycle EAV's Facebook page.
