 Greetings!

  EACA Beautification Committee
Checklist ImageThanks to all who made it out yesterday to clean up our village!

We had 11 volunteers and worked for about 2 1/2 hours picking up trash in the business district, scraping the debris from the gutters, cleaning up the tree beds with new mulch, and planting a few daffodils.  (We'll have to plant the rest of the bulbs another day when the ground thaws out)

We continue to rely on a small group of regular volunteers, but had a few new people out this month.

Please consider joining us by giving back to the community in the months to come.

Look to future newsletters for our feature on YARD OF THE MONTH.

EACA Public Safety - Call for Community Action
In an incident of note from the past couple of weeks, Mr. Jearell Williams from 593 Gresham Avenue was arrested on December 16th after getting into an altercation with police at the Edgewood Retail District, and remains in jail.  Mr. Williams is the mentally challenged man in his early 50s who serves as a host for numerous felons in our community, most recently Cedric Walker and Bobby Lee Harris.

We would like to recommend that neighbors or those impacted directly or indirectly by Mr. Williams and his friends send an e-mail to Heather Waters, the ADA on this case.  Her e-mail ishcwaters@dekalbda.org.  You should also copy our community prosecutor Dana Lawrence at delawrence@co.dekalb.ga.us.  Please be specific about problems that he and those operating from his house have caused you and any 911 calls you have personally made.  We also recommend that you emphasize his lack of ability to live within the community, children that live in the area, and his proximity to our neighborhood park and retail district.  I think everyone in the community would like to see this house sold and Mr. Williams moved to a living situation that would be more appropriate for his condition.
