EABA Annual Holiday Tree Lighting

Checklist ImageThe annual East Atlanta Village tree lighting sponsored by EABA and Village businesses will take place at dusk on Saturday, December 5th at the corner of Flat Shoals & Glenwood Avenue.

Come join us around 5:45 p.m. after attending East Atlanta Santa at Joe's and Brownwood Park's Drink for Dogs at The Midway.

(Dogs) Drink for Brownwood Fundraiser - This Saturday at Midway!
Join the Friends of Brownwood Park and East Atlanta Beer Festival on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at The Midway Pub for a holiday fundraiser.  Toast with friends, celebrate the season and help Brownwood Park at the same time.

Saturday, December 5th will find all of East Atlanta Village celebrating the holiday season with our annual holiday tree lighting (at dusk), photo ops with Santa, and also good times inside The Midway Pub for lovers of dogs, fine beer and great friends.  Collect a group of folks and find us at The Midway for drink specials, some rockin' raffle items (2 R/T Business Class tickets on Airtran, Thrashers, Hawks and theater tickets, restaurant GC...) and more.  The patio will be tented - leashed dogs welcome.  Sign up for Sit, Santa, Sit and get a great photo for this year's holiday cards.

Also available will be East Atlanta Beer Festival merchandise - including reprints of this year's much sought after t-shirts!

See website for details and to purchase raffle tickets (need not be present to win). Questions? -- email parks@eaca.net!
East Atlanta Santa to Benefit EAKC on Saturday!
Checklist ImageEast Atlanta Santa is back for a third year of laughing, crying, barking, and begging for smiles at Joe's Coffee/Avenue Realty on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009.

All of our appointments are already filled, but we will fit folks in between appointments as best we can, on a first-come first-served basis. We're starting at 10 a.m. and will go until 12:30 and then give Santa and the elves a break. We'll return at 1:30 and go until 3 p.m.

Just like last year, $15 gets you a CD burned with the best couple of shots while you wait. All proceeds benefit East Atlanta Kids Club -- www.eastatlantakids.org.

Joe's toy drive and canned food drive will also be in full swing, so feel free to bring a little something to help out.

We're happy to offer this chance to avoid the mall and benefit a great local group. E-mail eavsanta@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Center to Prevent Childhood Obesity grantees visit  Burgess-Peterson Academy

Checklist Image

The Student Wellness Ambassadors (SWA) from Burgess-Peterson Academyexcitedly greeted the visitors from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Center to Prevent Childhood Obesity on Nov.  17 as they entered the school. The visitors were in town to attend their annual convention and signed up for a tour of a local school that including gardening in the curriculum. The guests were introduced to Dr.Marilyn Hughes, director of nutrition for Atlanta Public Schools, BPA Wellness Committee, the SWA as well as the Master Gardener, Fred Clay, and chefs Todd Richards and Reggie Washington from Rolling Bones.

The SWA planted lettuce and bokchoi in the newly built raised beds and discussed with the visitors the different vegetables that they had grown over the year. The SWA took the group on a tour of the school discussing ways that they were implementing healthy lifestyles. The tour concluded with a freshly made salad from lettuce, radishes, and carrots picked in the garden and prepared by Chef Todd and Chef Reggie. The visitors were very complimentary of the SWA and the school.

Diana Vu from the RWJF commented, "We are so appreciative of your hard work in making a difference in these children's lives-daily. My very best regards to your entire staff, students and you for being involved in something so grand and being able to share these positive grassroots changes with us."
