BATL Highlight - Storytelling Fest: A Day of Entertainment Absolutely Free
|
This week we highlight the Storytelling aspect of July 17-19th's BATL Event (one of only many features of this Battle of Atlanta Commemoration. Please visit www.batlevent.org for information on the many other events occuring in East Atlanta and neighboring communities.)
With tales based on historical fact to stories of pure
fantasy The BATL Storytelling Festival returns on July 18th chock
full of links to the historic Battle of Atlanta. This year's B·ATL is the 145th
Commemoration of the Battle of Atlanta which happened in Southeast Atlanta
Expect to see performance Artist Doug
Lothes who brings his unique one man show, "Gone With the Wind in 20 Minutes"
once again to the festivities. Last year it was standing room only for the
performances. With the arch of an eyebrow or a hand on the hip, Doug recreates
all of the famous characters of the book and movie. With rapid-fire delivery he
brings the epic story to a fast, funny, yet poignant conclusion in just 20
minutes. You have to see it to believe it. There will be two shows at East
Atlanta Library on Flat Shoals Avenue in the East Atlanta Village and another
at the Kirkwood Library on Hosea Williams in the Kirkwood Business District.
East Atlanta neighbor and popular
Georgia musician and storyteller Eric Litwin will bring Civil War Ghosts to
life at the East Atlanta Library. Eric is another popular BATL artist
performing to standing room only crowds. His stories may be too intense for
small children, but are guaranteed to entertain and give audiences a shiver.
Eric adds music and sounds to his stories.
With over 8 hours of storytelling there
is something for children and storylovers of all ages. Wren's Nest Rambler
Curtis Richardson is new this year with African and African American folktales
and some selections from the Brer Rabbit collection. Another popular African
American Storyteller, Josie Bailey will bring her special Georgia characters to
the festival. Cathy Kaemerlin brings her one woman presentation from the novel
Turn Homeward Hannalee, a story about a Georgia girl that is a staple of school
reading lists.
For more information about all of the presentations and
other events of B-ATL visit the website at www.batlevent.org or call
404-377-6148. BATL is sponsored by the City of Atlanta and The Georgia
Humanities Council
