answer any questions about the East Atlanta Security Patrol (EASP) and
our new services, we'll be having a web chat from 8-10 pm on Tuesday,

In time for the 4th
of July holiday, EASP has rolled out its new and improved system for
helping to protect your property while you're out of town. Members can
send a single form by e-mail or fax to EASP before they leave
town, and we'll forward that form to Zone 6. You'll also have the
option of receiving additional patrols from our partner Safe Watch, a
group of local residents who walk or drive through your area. Safe
Watch volunteers will not be given your home address, but if you live
at 1520 Glenwood, they will be asked to patrol the 1500 block of
Glenwood. Please visit our news page at http://patrol.eaca.net/index/news for all of the details, including links to the new forms.
To learn more about the East Atlanta Security Patrol or to enroll, visit the EASP website (http://patrol.eaca.net). The cost to join the patrol is $50 per quarter, with a 50% discount for longtime residents and those 65+. To qualify, you must have lived at the same address for 20 years or be over age 65. We also have a 20% discount for members of an APD-sanctioned Neighborhood Watch. Please contact us if you're interested in setting up a Neighborhood Watch on your street. The bronze medal is one of many honors bestowed upon the school for its commitment to student wellness. Teacher Carolyn Reese with her second-grade students at the school's new garden.Over
the past year, Burgess-Peterson has worked to implement the district's

"This [award] shows that we are doing our best to institute the wellness policy that all schools should have by law," said Burgess-Peterson physical-education teacher and wellness coordinator Betty Jackson.
"This also shows that we're setting the tone for other APS schools. We
want to be able to say, with these things in place, that we are
beginning to develop a type of healthy-eating, healthy lifestyle for
our children."
On
Tuesday the school held a sold-out "Farm to School" roundtable
discussion in partnership with Slow Food Atlanta and Georgia Organics
to discuss school food and nutrition policy and encourage community
involvement. Local businesses also have offered their support. Cristy

Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation - considers childhood
obesity to be one of the nation's leading public health threats.
"Georgia has one of the highest childhood obesity ratings in the United States," said Jackson, Burgess-Peterson's 2009-2010 teacher of the year. "This is what we're trying to combat."
The
APS elementary school is now eligible to attend the Healthy Schools
