Success!! Fire Station 13 Car (& Dog) Wash Fundraiser
The fundraiser event this weekend was a great success!! Over $650 was raised in just a few short hours as volunteers washed cars and sold dog washes at Armor Tire on Saturday.Checklist Image

This was truly a community effort and Fire Station 13 is very thankful to everyone for getting involved in this campaign.

Thank you to all community residents who brought out their dirty cars, trucks, vans, and even el caminos to get washed for the cause!! Much appreciation also to Armor Tire for hosting the event and providing our endless supply of water, Park Pet for the dog washes, ACE Hardware for helping out with our car washing materials, DJ Nate Minor for playing tunes to keep everyone grooving, and The Glenwood and Flat Iron for providing food to our volunteers. Huge thanks also go to the volunteers who worked this event with little rest the entire 3 1/2 hours!!

SAVE THE DATE:

Saturday, April 4th Graveyard Tavern will host a blow-out benefit party for the Fire Station fundraising efforts!

Sign up now for Earth Day Activities in East Atlanta!!
East Atlanta's Earth Day recognition will be Saturday, April 18th. This year we will have 3 concurrent efforts where volunteers can contribute as a part of Earth Day. Once you've read through the below and determined your preference, please e-mail the appropriate coordinator to sign-up!! We need over 100 volunteers to make Earth Day a success!
  1. In the Village, there will be a significant face-lifting and re-work of the "Welcome to East Atlanta" sign and surrounding greenspace -- painting, plant installation, etc. Additionally, we will work on clean-up efforts in the village and put in additional plantings. E-mail beautification@eaca.net if interested in volunteering for this project.
  2. In the entire East Atlanta neighborhood, we will be conducting a Tire Round-Up. Volunteers for the round-up need to be well-able to lift and move tires, unafraid to get dirty, and we are seeking folks who have pick-up trucks to aid in the collection of the tires.E-mail beautification@eaca.net if interested in volunteering for this project.
  3. The 3rd, and largest area of work will be within Brownwood Park. The Friends of Brownwood Park will be celebrating Earth Day in the park on Saturday, April 18.  From 9am to 1pm, volunteers will help plant the Recreation Center beds, install a wood fence around the HVAC units on the back of the building, and replace the structure of the existing flower bed that marks the park entrance at Emerson and Brownwood.  Plantings around the Recreation Center are funded in part by the Park Pride Community Grant and your help is vital to contributing matching funds in the form of volunteer hours.  We need 75 folks to help us reach our goal of 300 volunteer hours.  If you would like to help with this project, please e-mail parks@eaca.net and let us know we can count on you Saturday, April 18.

 Help PEDS Count Broken Sidewalks
Announcement from PEDS

PEDS LogoHelp us convince the City of Atlanta that safe and accessible sidewalks should be a top priority. Volunteers are needed to help determine how many of the city's sidewalks need to be repaired or replaced.

Becoming a Feet on Atlanta volunteer is easy. Just print one survey form for each street you intend to survey, go for a walk, and use tally marks to note what you see.  Volunteers who submit completed forms to PEDS by April 30 will be entered in a random drawing for a $75 gift certificate at Phidippides.

Make sure your neighborhood's broken sidewalks get counted! If you plan to volunteer, please let us know by e-mailing Jo Ann Zyla.

If broken sidewalks aren't counted, they don't count!
Mayor Franklin has said for years that she wants Atlanta to be a "walking city."  Actions speak louder than words. The City budget includes no funding for sidewalk maintenance. And scorecards used by the City to gauge the effectiveness of its services include no performance measures for sidewalk maintenance. Busted sidewalks deserve parity with potholes!

Join us Tues, March 31 at 10:00 am at the intersection of Monroe Drive and Park Drive to kick off Feet on Atlanta month. We are inviting the media to join PEDS for a walk on Monroe Drive, a recently repaved road whose sidewalks have been neglected for decades.
