Resolutions: What will you resolve & how?
|
New Year's resolutions are all about finding a way to tackle your issues, yet less than 20% of individuals actually attain their goals. That doesn't mean it's not possible. You want to ensure you aren't setting yourself up for failure in the first place. These two reminders may help you cross a few things off your list at the end of this year.
1) Create strategies for your goals.
The goal = the "product"
Strategies = how the product will materialize
For example, if you goal is to increase profit in 2012, you need to develop the steps that will allow you to increase profit, which brings us to the next tip.
2) Follow the tried-and-true SMART acronym for goal-setting. A goal must be Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely. Run any of your resolutions through that list and if it doesn't fit, restructure it or throw it out.
Examples... Goal: Add 20 new homes to rental inventory in 9 months Strategies: Connect with professionals who may know of investors or other owners who need someone to step in and manage. Utilize social media to promote your services. Offer an incentive to current owners (or professionals whose services you use) who can refer another owner.
Goal: Enhance company's image in 9 months Strategies: Use common courtesies plentifully in all communications and apply the Golden Rule. Don't overpromise, but do a high-quality job, and do what was agreed upon. Ask for feedback (in a manner that allows you to measure). Handle conflicts and potentially messy situations with dignity, professionalism, and some deep breaths (especially if you are writing-- print or email).
Do you have any goals you achieved last year, or goals that you are taking another stab at? Feel free to share them on our Facebook page!
