See the Documentary That Parents Everywhere are Talking About - Race To Nowhere
racetonowhere
Race to Nowhere is a documentary film examining the pressures faced by youth, teachers and parents in our achievement obsessed education system and culture. Featuring the heartbreaking stories of young people who have been pushed to the brink, educators who are burned out and worried students aren't developing the skills needed, and parents who are trying to do what's best for their kids, Race to Nowhere points to the silent epidemic running rampant in our schools.

Mountaineers and CITs to Focus on Service Projects in Their Own Homes, Schools and Communities
We are excited to announce some important changes to the CIT and Mountaineer Programs for 2010.   Earlier this year, Don and Scott Whipple met with the founder of a program called Mental Karate, noted author and educator Mawi Asegedom.  They were so impressed by his ideas that they decided to bring his program to Mountain Camp.  Mental Karate takes Character Development to a new level by inspiring children to take specific Character Actions in their own homes, schools and communities.  Our campers will learn this simple, structured, action-oriented system to help them develop initiative, discipline, contribution, courage and awareness.

In the past, CITs and Mountaineers have participated in service projects at Mountain Camp that benefited our camp communities.  This year, these campers will focus on designing community service projects to implement after they return home.  Our program leaders will help campers create and plan these Character Actions. During the year we will follow up with them to be sure these ideas are implemented and to track the success.
