aca Mountain Camp Scholarship Fund

Mountain Camp and the American Camp Association are working together to provide summer camp for deserving children who can not afford the camp tuition.  Last year we provided more than 80 deserving campers scholarships to camp, and this year we are hoping to send even more!

Mountain Camp has partnered with three outstanding Bay Area non- profit groups: S.M.A.R.T. ,Real Options for City Kids and the Caldwell Foundation and we are asking for your help.  When you are completing your online Camper Registration, you now have the option of contributing a tax deductible donation to the Mountain Camp Scholarship Fund.
Any contribution will be greatly appreciated.

Like no other youth activity, camp has the ability to shape life-long attitudes and behaviors. It is a place where children are treated as individuals, and encouraged to grow in a supportive environment that values diversity. In this intimate setting, children from all backgrounds learn to live cooperatively, and make close and lasting friendships.

The American Camp Association is a community of camp professionals who, for nearly 100 years, have joined together to share our knowledge and experience and to ensure the quality of camp programs. Because of their diverse 7,000 plus membership and their exceptional programs, children and adults have the opportunity to learn powerful lessons in community, character-building, skill development, and healthy living-lessons that can be learned nowhere else.

This is an opportunity to support Mountain Camp's mission to send more deserving kids to camp, as well as the ACA's mission to enrich the lives of children, youth and adults through the camp experience.

As we all strive to do what we can for the long term health of our environment, Mountain Camp is proud to have a long history of environmental awareness and we continue to look for new ways to make our camp more green.

In the last five years we have reduced the amount of "paper" needed to run Mountain Camp by:
-    Replacing the printed newsletters with fun electronic newsletters.
-    Encouraging families to register online and emailing invoices to parents.
-    Publishing Parent Packets online so parents and campers can read electronically.
-    Fun Fact: Mountain Camp was one of the 1st ACA camps to offer online registration and has done so since 2002!

- At camp, we have used recycled building products as well as Trex decking and Hardiplank™ sidings for the cabin walls. Hardiplank™ has been used in a majority of the construction over the past 15 years.  Hardiplank™ is an environmentally friendly building product that is  non-combustible, long lasting, and easier to manufacture than vinyl or aluminum sidings and doesn't deplete forests like wood siding.
- Also up at camp we use a propane powered generator that provides the electricity supply to the entire campsite. Cleaner burning propane as opposed to a dirtier, cheaper diesel generator makes a major difference in lowering our carbon footprint.
- We have a great partnership with the South Tahoe Refuse Company which has a Material Recovery Facility that sorts and recycles ALL our camp refuse.
