Inclement Weather Reminder |
|
Just a reminder; check the media in the morning. If a school is closed for a heat or mechanical problem, staff may not report and may be unable to contact tutors. Whether it is your school or all GRPS schools that are closed, we do not expect tutors to make up their sessions.
Remember that we never expect tutors to come if they feel the conditions are unsafe for travel. If that is the case, we do ask that you try to contact the school to report your absence. |

Five GRPD Officers to Become Tutors |
|

Thanks to Chief Kevin Belk and past Deputy Chief James Farris for promoting Schools of Hope within the Grand Rapids Police Department. As a result, 5 officers are in the process of becoming tutors. This is a great opportunity for our children to get to know our officers as individuals who are concerned about their welfare, success and safety.

Meet Sherri McGinnis - AmeriCorps Member |
AmeriCorps member, Sheri McGinnis, has a keen desire to help her community in a time of need. Sheri says, "I joined AmeriCorps because serving local in Michigan's current economic climate is especially important. We need to stay true to our state and invest in our next generation. We need to equip them with skills for their future, teach them to be the best they can be no matter what stage of life they're at, and lead by example."
Serving at Mulick Park and Campus Elementary, Sheri enjoys helping the students, sharing their successes, and seeing their confidence and enthusiasm grow as they become empowered through reading. After her service ends, Sheri plans on continuing to work with youth in the community. She will be going to grad school to finish her Masters of Social Work and pursuing a career as a therapist specializing in adolescent treatment.
