Holiday Gifts
Remember that we do not expect tutors to give gifts for any occasion.  If, however, you desire to give a gift please check with the coordinator at your building for the policy at that school.  We also recommend that the gift be in keeping with the program, i.e. a book or something that will encourage reading and creativity.

Schools of Hope on the Morning Show

Thanks to Angelia Coleman, principal at Campus Elementary, and Nancy Carter, Schools of Hope coordinator at the school, who appeared on the Morning Show with Shelley Irwin on WGVU, 88.5 FM, on November 12.

mcgrathColleen McGrath - Dickinson Coordinator

I am a single parent of 3 children:  David, Gemma, and Gianna.  David and Gemma are in 3rd grade and Gianna is in first.

I am an elementary certified teacher with a BX in Language Arts for 6th through 8th grade.  I am working on my MA in education with a focus in reading at Spring Arbor University.

In my spare time I teach catechism at St. Jude's parish where 2 of my children are my students!  I also sing in the choir and occasionally volunteer at God's Kitchen.  I like spending time with my children.  We like to play board games, go for bike rides, go to the park and go sledding and roller skating.

I enjoy my job and I hope to build a strong program for Dickinson.  I am really lucky to have such great tutors so far; they are very positive and great with the children.  They make the tutoring sessions fun for the children.

Math Tutors Sought at MLK School

Shatawn Brigham the Community School Coordinator for Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Academy (MLK) is seeking tutors, especially in math, for students in grades 5 - 8. Times are flexible, but during the school day is preferred.

If interested, please contact Shatawn Brigham at 819-6306 or sbrigham@dablodgett.org.  He will provide more information.

You Are Missed!

When a Harrison student was told his tutor was not able to be there for his tutoring session, he became agitated wondering if the tutor was sick or if something bad happened. (The tutor had to reschedule because of a hastily called meeting.)

Our children bond with tutors quickly and you become an important part of their lives, whether they show it or not.
