Rebuilding the American dream
For 26 years, Habitat for Humanity of Kent County has provided low income families with homes of their own.  Historically, Habitat has built new homes, habitat for humanity logobut since early 2010 they have undertaken a new task: rehabbing abandoned houses.

This year, they plan to buy 34 forclosed homes and rehab and remodel them to LEED-Silver standards, which entails a variety of heath and eco-friendly building choices.

Homeowners are't the only ones who benefit from a LEED certified rehabbed home.  The whole community joins them.  By rehabbing abandoned homes, Habitat brings new life to dying neighborhoods and funnels spending to local businesses.
