 December is a quiet month for media related events in Alberta. However, the entry deadline for the Rosie Awards, Alberta's equivalent of the Oscars is coming up fast on January 12, 2012. Winners to be announced at the gala at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Calgary on May 12, 2012.

 Scott Fee joined the Global Calgary Morning News crew in November and Shelley Youngblutt, formerly editor of Calgary Herald's Swerve Magazine is now the western editor for the Globe and Mail, CBC Edmonton AM has two new hosts, Lydia Neufeld and Rick Harp.

Alberta Media Awards
 The Writers Guild of Alberta invites submissions of new Alberta books to the 2012 Alberta Literary Awards until December 31. Prizes of $1500 will be awarded for books published in 2011 at a gala event in the summer of 2012.

Alberta Media Personality Amber Bowerman
 Amber Webb-Bowerman, a promising journalist in Calgary, was killed in a multiple murder-suicide by her landlord in May 27, 2008. She obviously made a big impression in her too short life. Her fans created the Amber Bowerman Memorial Foundation. See more about Amber Bowerman |

Alberta Television Spotlight: Global TV Edmonton
 Global TV Edmonton produces a total of 45 hours of local newscasts weekly; 7 hours of news every weekday, 5 hours on weekends (7 to 10am on Saturday and 8 to 10am on Sunday), an hour-long newscast at 6 p.m. and half-hour newscast at 11 pm on Saturday and Sunday nights. Alberta Radio Station Spotlight: CFFR | 660 News
 CFFR operates in an all-news format in Calgary. Branded 660 News, it is touted as the only local all news radio station in Calgary. The branding is similar to that used by Rogers all-news or news-talk stations across Canada. The all news station in Edmonton is CHQT/iNews 880 a Corus station.

Alberta Newspaper Spotlight: Red Deer Advocate
 First published in 1901 and then expanded from a weekly with about 700 subscribers, the Red Deer Advocate has grown to a daily with around 16,000 subscribers. Published by Black Press out of BC, The Advocate employs over 160 people who work shifts around the clock.
