July 2012
Greetings

"It's all a matter of paying attention, being awake in the present
moment, and not expecting a huge payoff. The magic in this world seems
to work in whispers and small kindnesses." ~Charles de Lint

mind full or mindful The magic in this world does seem to work in whispers and small kindnesses...summer is a perfect time to notice this gentleness, as the natural pace seems to slow to match the heat of the days.

Mindfulness is about lightening the mind, body and spirit by allowing one's attention to observe the experience of the present moment.  During the summer we often like to lighten our physical load by removing the heavy clothes of winter and slipping into lightweight cotton and flip-flops. Can you also metaphorically lighten your load by shifting from "mind full" to "mindful" for a few moments?

Wishing you a shift from "mind full" to "mindful" this month,

Pam

Stanford Research Team Studies Compassion and Mindfulness

Stanford Monk Meditation StudyAn interesting new study out of Stanford University examines the neurological responses to compassion especially in the reward centers in the brain. Can compassion be taught and can it be neurologically located? The research subjects for this study were Buddhist monks and nuns. It will be interesting to learn if this research can be generalized to the rest of us...the more "casual" meditators of the world.
