As we enter the summer months, there is a different rhythm and sound to our days...perhaps a universal language without words that allows us to slow down to the speed of life a bit differently? Mindfulness allows us to tune in to what is happening in the present moment through all of our senses.

What is your language of summer...the buzzing cicadas, the rhythmic creak of a porch swing, the familiar tinny jingle of the ice cream truck, the whirring of a fan, the repetitive cadence of a sprinkler, the sound of ice cubes cracking in a glass of lemonade, or perhaps the surprising roar of an ocean wave? Take a moment and close your eyes and simply pay attention to what you hear..the world around you is speaking in the language of summer, but are you listening?

 Meditation Maintenance
Meditation Maintenance Sessions are a great way to give yourself a monthly self-care "tune-up" by joining with fellow meditators to discuss insights and challenges of your practice. You are welcome to attend each month or simply on an occasional basis. You will find a supportive and welcoming respite in the midst of your busyness.

Summer Schedule

Evening sessions meet 7-9 PM
Wed, June 13 -- special session
No July Session

Daytime sessions meet 12:30-2:30 PM
Fri, June 8
No July Session  
  
Both evening and daytime sessions are held at Stress Resources' office (97 Lowell Rd, Concord, MA). Please pre-register for sessions as space is limited. 

Meditation Maintenance sessions are $15 per session. Register by e-mail or by phone (978-369-5243).

Save the Date....Bermuda Anyone?

Join me from May 3-10, 2013 for a cruise from Boston to Bermuda on the beautiful Norwegian Dawn. You can earn ANCC approved contact hours for nurses and have a wonderful relaxing vacation at the same time!  Stress Resources is partnering with TLC Travel to offer this unique way for nurses to relax and learn (non-nurse friends and families are welcome to come along!). All continuing education activities will take place in the mornings while we are at sea...lots of time for fun, sun, relaxation, and rejuvenation.

The Real Nurses (RN) Contest Winners


In honor of National Nurses Week last month, I asked nurses to reflect on when they knew they were a Real Nurse (RN).  

Thanks for your entries...it was a
difficult choice but these two winning entries speak to the resourcefulness, creativity and compassion that Real Nurses (RN) possess.

Congratulations, to all the Real Nurses who give so much to each of us everyday.

First place:

I knew I was a Real Nurse (RN) when...
"I dressed in my uniform, plus cap, and attended a Halloween party in 1982,  then went to work the night shift directly from the party, no need to change."~ GH

Special Meditation Maintenance on
Wednesday, June 13, 7-9 PM

ZentangleMeditation Maintenance regular, Ann Sadler, has generously offered to teach us a form of meditative art, called Zentangle®, during our June 13 Meditation Maintence session.   

  

The process of creating a Zentangle® is based on aspects of meditation and can enhance your mindfulness.  Here is what Ann has to say about Zentangle®:

 

"I have always been a compulsive doodler, but the appeal of Zentangle® for me is twofold: the legitimizing of what I considered an idle habit, and the expansion of my design repertoire in a more structured and reflective manner. I can tangle whenever I have a few minutes to spare or need to shift my focus from work/family issues. It provides me with an alternative to focusing on my breathing, and allows me to produce something beautiful with no skill or effort involved. There are no rules, and no mistakes in a Zentangle®. It is what it is. Enjoy!"

Stress Resources Offers Flexible, Individual and Semi-Private Mindfulness Training

Stress Resources will help you craft a mindfulness practice that makes sense for you.  We can arrange in-office or real-time interactive web instruction anywhere in the world through Skype webcam connection!

 

Flexible MBSR/Private and Semi-Private Mindfulness Training: This unique option offered by Stress Resources allows the individual to set the pace for training but maintains the essential framework of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction in private or semi-private sessions.

The flexible mindfulness training option allows your MBSR training to take place over 8-12 weeks at your own pace and schedule. Four individual sessions (1-hour each) are scheduled at the participant's convenience with morning, afternoon and evening sessions available. 

Additional training sessions may be added as needed for an additional fee and a Blue Cross/Blue Shield discount is available.

Fall MBSRThis is the program you've read about and heard about...Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). 

Join Stress Resources' Fall MBSR classes.  We offer both a Thursday evening class and a Friday morning class to meet your scheduling needs.  Make up sessions (in the next session) are included.  Stress Resources' MBSR includes all materials, a Blue Cross/Blue Shield discount AND continuing education for nurses and social workers! Class size is limited to 15 per class.
