Greetings
No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn. ~Hal Borland
I have had a unique opportunity during the past several weeks to closely observe the waning days of winter and welcome the harbingers of an early spring. I have had the necessity, and opportunity, of moving a bit slower because I have been encased in a walking boot due to a stress fracture of my left foot (check out my blog post). It seems ridiculous to admit that it took a physical challenge to jump-start observing the changing environment. But somehow, as it now takes me twice as long to walk from my car to my office, I notice the wind, the shimmering puddle in the parking lot and the smell of awakening earth in a way that probably would have eluded me had I been moving faster. While I do NOT recommend injuring yourself to become more mindful, I DO recommend pausing and simply slowing your pace to drop into a mindful moment during this tail-end of winter and birth of springtime. Wishing you a month of slowing down,
Pam

Finding Mindfulness in Unexpected Places
Spring is in the Air | |
We can find mindfulness in the most unexpected places, if we slow down and bring attention to the present moment.
Spring is an amazing time, with buds on flowering trees changing daily, the return of bird songs, and the fresh, earthy smell of thawing ground. The fleeting impermanence of the changes become magical and make the present moment seem even more precious.
If you happen to be in the Boston area during the beginning of April, one of these magical moments occurs at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum's annual arrival of the hanging nasturtiums...15-20 feet long and gingerly draped in the inner courtyard. Magnificent mindfulness!
