Artists for Alzheimer's (ARTZ) and The Boston University Alzheimer's Disease Center Advisory Board is hosting the Boston premiere screening of
"I Remember Better When I Paint" on the evening of
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010. The reception begins at 6pm, followed by the film screening at 6:30pm and the panel discussion at 7:30pm.
This film by Eric Ellena and Berna Huebner, presented by French Connection Films and the Hilgos Foundation, and narrated by Olivia de Havilland is the first international documentary about the positive impact of art and other creative therapies on people with Alzheimer's and how these approaches can change the way we look at the disease. Among those who are featured are noted doctors from Boston University and Yasmin Aga Khan, president of Alzheimer's Disease International and daughter of Rita Hayworth, who had Alzheimer's, and the ARTZ: Artists for Alzheimer's program, which facilitates museum programs for people living with Alzheimer's disease at the Louvre in Paris and at several museums within the Greater Boston area, which include the Peabody Essex, Decordova, Fuller Craft, Harvard Museum of Natural History, and the National Heritage.
John Zeisel, Ph.D., President of ARTZ and the I'm Still Here Foundation, recalls, "several years ago I received a call late in the evening from someone in France saying they saw on the ARTZ: Artists for Alzheimer's website that we were organizing innovative museum visits for people living with Alzheimer's. The group-French Connection Films-said they were developing a film idea around arts and Alzheimer's and they wanted to talk. Since then ARTZ: Artists for Alzheimer's have been involved-as subjects, not as producers or directors-with this recently completed project produced by the Hilgos Foundation together with French Connection Films."
