Greetings!
When you possess light within, you see it externally.  ~Anaïs Nin

As we enter the season of giving, I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for giving me the opportunity to connect with you each month through this newsletter. Whether we have recently connected or have known each other for decades, I am grateful that you have taken the time to read my words and communicate with me. The ability to care, connect and communicate with each other is what keeps our inner lights burning. May this season of giving and receiving be a time for nurturing your own inner light and sharing your light with others.

Wishing you peace and light in the new year,
Pam

 Opening the Door to Meditation
Pam Ressler
I am thrilled to announce that my first CD, Opening the Door to Meditation is in production and I am now taking pre-orders for the first run!

Thank you to my students who have inspired this CD. I have listened to your ideas and requests for some shorter mindfulness meditations than ones currently available, which tend to run about 45 minutes.  Opening the Door to Meditation includes four meditations that are each approximately 15-20 minutes:
  • Breath/Body Awareness (similar to the body scan meditation we use in the mindfulness based stress reduction program)
  • Walking Meditation
  • Music Meditation
  • LovingKindness or Metta meditation

The meditations can be combined to increase meditation time or used as stand alone relaxation/meditations.

What makes this CD so special and unique is my collaboration with musician Louis Arnold.  He is aLouis Arnold practicing meditator and an
accomplished guitarist.  Louis has composed the music specifically for this CD to allow you to deepen your meditation experience, not distract from it.

On composing the music to accompany spoken meditations, Louis states, "The music that is offered in this collaboration with Pam is intended to support the experience of meditation which leads to inner calm, strength and happiness. The music is not meant to have you breathe or walk in tempo; rather it is made to support the meditative state of your breath or walking motion at any point in time."

Whether you are an "experienced" meditator (remember, we are all beginners!) or simply want to try meditating for the first time, I hope you will find a welcome respite from your busy day in Opening the Door to Meditation.

Pre-order your copy (or copies!) today by visiting the Stress Resources' online shopping cart by clicking here or contact Stress Resources at 978-369-5243 for more information.

Expected delivery will be January 2010, but gift cards with the CD cover design are available for holiday giving.

The REAL Patch Adams

Do you remember the feature film, Patch Adams, starringDr. Patch Adams and Pam Ressler Robin Williams?

Robin Williams played the role of Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams, an idealistic, unconventional, physician activist in the early 1970's who believed that the way medical care was being delivered did not support true healing.  Patch Adams dreamed of a health care delivery system that was based on communities freely giving and receiving care, and health care as a basic human right for all.  Fast forward nearly 40 years to 2009, and the "real" Patch Adams is still trying to bring his dreams to fruition.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Dr. Patch Adams while he was in Concord, Massachusetts and listening to his hopes and dreams for health care. I must admit I had the sense I was listening to Don Quixote tilting at windmills,as Patch excitedly extolled the virtues of a totally free system of health care unencumbered by insurance reimbursement or malpractice premiums. While many of Patch's dreams may not be sustainable or achievable in a large scale, I believe he is right on target in identifying the following essential components that are in dangerously short supply in our current health care system: connection, community, and compassion.  Allowing each of us to find a way to contribute to the support of health and wellbeing of our fellow humans beings is more than changing insurance regulations...there is no billing code for
caring.
