June 2009
Greetings!

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time."  ~John Lubbock

Mindfulness...slowing down to be aware of the present moment.  How often do we think tomorrow I will be mindful, but I just don't have time today?  Consider the study highlighted below that suggests workers practicing mindfulness perceive fewer daily hassles, and have fewer complaints of physical symptoms. Maybe cultivating mindfulness is just what the doctor ordered this summer!  Opportunities for mindfulness abound, if you open yourself to the possibilities as they appear...like clouds floating across the June sky.

May you open your senses to mindful opportunities this month.

Take care,
Pam

Mindfulness Decreases Stress in the Workplace
Mindfulness at WorkAn interesting study focusing on mindfulness in the workplace was recently highlighted on CNN.com.  University of West Virginia investigators studied 103 participants.  One half of the participants were given written educational materials on how to handle stress and the other half of the study participants were trained in ways to cultivate mindfulness for 8 weeks using meditation, yoga and other mindfulness strategies.  Lead investigator, Kimberly Williams, indicated that those participants who received mindfulness training "had significantly less daily hassles, psychological distress and significantly fewer medical symptoms -- like lower blood pressure and fewer aches and pains -- than those who were handed a pamphlet".  Read more.....
