January 2009
Greetings!

"Now let us welcome the New Year,
Full of things that have never been."
- Rainer Maria Rilke

Welcome to the new year, a year of new possibilities. Thank you to Pat T., who reminded me of the above quotation as the old year passed and the new year was born. As we in the north bundle ourselves under many outer layers, perhaps this can also be a time of examining the inner layers of our lives and exploring this new place of opportunity, of freshness, that exists in 2009.  Inertia is easy, unfolding into new ways of being is challenging...I wish you a new year of challenging exploration!

Peace,
Pam

Meditation Maintenance

Meditation

Start the New Year right by jump starting your meditation practice! Meditation Maintenance Sessions are a great way to give yourself a self-care "tune-up" once a month.  Because we are in the winter weather season, I will put a recording on the office voice mail (programs and classes option) 978-369-5243 by 3 PM for evening sessions and 9 AM for morning sessions if the session has been canceled due to weather.

Evening sessions meet from 7-9 PM on the second Monday of each month:

  • January 12, 2009
  • February 9, 2009

Daytime sessions meet from 12:30-2:30 PM on the second Friday of each month:

  • January 9, 2009
  • February 13, 2009

Both evening and daytime sessions will be held at Stress Resources' office (97 Lowell Rd, Concord, MA) this year. It will be necessary to pre-register for sessions this year, as space is limited. I will contact you only if a session is filled.  If you do not hear from me, there is space available in the session. Meditation Maintenance sessions are $15 per session. Register by e-mail or by phone (978-369-5243).

NEW YEAR...NEW YOU ?

The new year is a great time to finally make those changes you have been putting off.  Why not make a positive change by learning new tools of stress resiliency by signing up for the  Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) or arranging individual sessions of MBSR?   Classes begin in January, flexible scheduling and continuing education credit are available. Don't put this off again for "next year"...because "next year" is now here!

Eagle Scout Builds Labyrinth in Hanover, MA
lantern
I am pleased to see that labyrinths are gaining in local popularity; so much so that a Massachusetts teenager chose to build a labyrinth as his Eagle Scout project.  Using stones to line the path, Ryan Brenner carefully created a lasting gift to his community of Hanover, Massachusetts.

A recent Boston Globe article highlighted the Eagle Scout's initiative. "My part was to lead the building of it," Brenner said, "but there's a part of everyone who worked on it in the paths of the labyrinth. Some people brought stones from their yards, the beach, or travels and placed them there in memory of someone or with intentions and prayers. Now as more people return to walk the labyrinth, they bring stones to add or use other ways to make it their own special place," Brenner said. The labyrinth, on the grounds of the First Congregational Church of Hanover has become a meditative destination for local townsfolk, as well as for visitors.

Connection, Communication and Compassion
Planetree ModelPlanetree Model of Healthcare

I have been fascinated with the model of care called the Planetree model since participating in a site visit for Massachusetts General Hospital to a hospital incorporating the Planetree model several years ago.  The Planetree model focuses on integrative ways to create connection, communicatin and compassionon in the delivery of healthcare.
