Greetings!
"Hope is like a road in the country; there was never a road, but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence." Lin Yutang 1895-1976
As I came across this quote, I immediately thought of the monumental election on November 4 in which we have just participated. With any change there can be natural resistance and fear of the unknown, but this can also be coupled with unexpected opportunity. No matter if you aligned yourself "Blue" or "Red" during the past year, let us come together in this historic time and build a road of hope together, by walking side by side until the road comes into existence. I wish you hope, healing and gratitude during this month of Thanksgiving.
With gratitude,
Pamela Katz Ressler, RN, BSN, HN-BC

January 2009 8-week MBSR Program
YIKES...our stress levels are escalating at unbelievable rates according to the American Psychological Association's recent study on stress. The study cites that 77% of those surveyed reported physical symptoms of stress during the past 30 days, and 74% of those surveyed reported psychological symptoms of stress over the past 30 days. What occurs to me is that this study was commissioned last year....imagine what the results would be if we sampled the population now with the fiscal crisis looming large in people's lives!
While this report is troubling and demonstrates that we are marinating ourselves on a day to day basis in stress hormones...there is something proactive we can do to address the high levels of stress we face. We cannot always change the external factors in our lives, but we can learn to work with our stressors in new, more effective and positive ways. This is what Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction or MBSR is all about!
A new 8-week program is beginning in January. Classes are held once a week, meeting for two hours per session. Class size is limited to 15 students to allow for individual instruction. Classes are held on Thursday evenings or Friday mornings, you may arrange flexible scheduling to meet your needs. If an 8 week program does not fit into your schedule right now (maybe you are just TOO STRESSED to make an every week commitment), I also offer individual MBSR sessions at my Concord office. These can be arranged to meet your schedule with telephone appointment options available.
