Greetings!
As July drifts toward August, I find myself enjoying the different pace of summer. Children have their change of pace dictated by the school year...but as adults have we lost that sense of changing pace? In our highly structured, fast-moving days with instant-on connection to the workplace, and our climate-controlled environments have we lost some of the natural shift of the seasons? Even if you don't have a chance to "get away" here are a few suggestions to give the pace of summer a chance to enter your life this month...Turn off the A/C and open the windows in your car, smell the air after a rain, walk barefoot, roast a marshmallow, pick up some local corn on your way home from work and enjoy the rich flavor, sit under a tree with a glass of lemonade and a non-work related book, take a walk after dinner, listen to crickets, watch for shooting stars in the night sky, and definitely treat yourself to an ice cream cone!
Wishing you creative ways to notice the pace of summer,

Attention Training...Focusing a Wandering Mind |
|

New research is being conducted on mindfulness and its benefits for individuals, both children and adults with attendtion deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD). By applying the strategies taught in mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) an increase in attention, focus, and concentration were noted by researchers. A recent article in the Boston Globe highlighted the work on mindful awareness being done at UCLA by Dr. Lidia Zylkowska and others. With advances in neuroimaging, I am sure we will continue to see more research looking at attention and focus. Interesting that ancient tools of meditation are being rediscovered as innovative strategies in our modern society.

UPDATE...Kripalu Retreat & Renewal Fall Weekend |
|
We are going to Kripalu...October 24 through October 26 (Fri-Sun)
I have arranged, through the generous assistance of my friend Toni Bradley, owner of Serenity Yoga in Bedford, MA, group rates (if we have at least 5 people register) for an autumn weekend of "Retreat and Renewal" at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Kripalu is the largest yoga and meditation center in the U.S. and is located in Lenox, MA.
This "Retreat and Renewal" weekend is open to anyone who may be interested: women, men, couples and singles...you do not need to have taken any of my classes or workshops to join us. If you want to cut costs by sharing a room, roommate matching is available by the reservation department at Kripalu.
Reservations at Kripalu are made by each individual, and will reflect 20% off the published Retreat and Renewal rate, credited at the time of check in, if we have at least 5 participants in our group. If we do not have at least 5 participants, the rate will be the published rate. There are many types of accommodations, ranging from dormitory style to private room and bath. "Retreat and Renewal" programming allows you do participate in numerous workshops, yoga and movement classes, meditate, reflect and most of all renew and recharge in the amazing autumn beauty of the Berkshires. Your room, all meals (beginning with Friday dinner and ending with Sunday lunch), Retreat and Renewal workshops, yoga classes and use of the outdoor and indoor facilities are included in the all-inclusive prices.
All information about reservations, accommodations/pricing should be directed to Kripalu reservations at 800-741-7353. Important: You need to use the group name Serenity Yoga and KYTA#1374 (referring Kripalu teacher Toni Bradley) to be able to register as part of the group for the applicable discount.
Note: This is a very popular weekend in the Berkshires and availability is first come, first served...Kripalu does NOT hold a block of rooms for groups, so make your plans early! I have already called in my reservation....I look forward to seeing you at Kripalu!
Feel free to call or e-mail me if you have any questions other than reservation information.
