November Corn

Greetings!

November always feels to me like a perfect time to take a long breath and notice what it is not....not quite icy winter, not quite crimson and golden leafed autumn...but a wonderful month to pause, go inward, and reflect before the busyness of the holiday season creeps up on us!

I would like to call your attention to new offerings as well as familiar ones this November.  A great way to enter into this season of reflection is by joining us for the November Meditation Maintenance class on November 7.  Check out the information in the column on the left in this newsletter.  If you are already anticipating a stress filled holiday...consider joining me for a one night workshop on November 14 addressing holiday stress with tips and tools to care for yourself during the season.  Both the Meditation Maintenance and Stress Less Holiday workshop will be held in Concord, MA.

For those of you who have requested more learning opportunities for those unable to attend my on-site workshops...you are in luck!  I am launching a new series of TeleResources classes for nurses and others who are interested in the topics such as: Building a Business on a Budget and Stress Management.  While these classes are focused on those in the health professions, they are open to anyone with an interest in the subject.  A great way to learn and share with others in the comfort of your own home!

And finally, I have had an outpouring of mail concerning an article I ran in last month's newsletter on Dr. Randy Pausch, the Carnegie Mellon professor who is sharing his personal story of hope, humor and healing as he lives with pancreatic cancer. Many of you who wrote shared your own life lessons and childhood dreams, and how they have changed or shaped you through the years. Thank you for sharing such powerful thoughts! Dr. Pausch continues to inspire and teach us all by living so mindfully; and he has recently gotten some encouraging news about this cancer progression.  I have included a link to his personal blog for those of you who wish to update yourself on his amazing journey.

I have updated my website...always a work in progress...with some new content, as well as interactive tools.  Let me know your suggestions, comments and thoughts about the site and how Stress Resources can continue to work with you to build your stress resiliency!

Wishing you time to pause and breathe this November,

Pam
Stress Less Holidays Workshop
November 14, 7-8 PM
Holiday Stress
Do you always say to yourself..."This year will be different, I am not going to get stressed out by the holidays"?  Well here is a timely workshop for you!  I will be presenting my popular one-hour workshop "Stress Less Holidays" at Concord Carlisle Adult and Community Education well before Thanksgiving to give you lots of opportunities to use the tips presented.  This is NOT a Martha Stewart how-to workshop, but one that will allow you to let go of some habitual "shoulds and musts" of the season.  Online registration is available through Concord Carlisle Adult and Community Education by clicking on the link below.

Update on Dr. Randy Pausch and His Lessons for Life: Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams
Randy Pausch's Web Log

Randy Pausch

If you didn't get last month's newsletter and are curious about who Randy Pausch is, read this excerpt from Stress Resources' October 2007 Newsletter:

"Dr. Pausch is a brilliant academic researcher, a well-loved professor, a husband, a father with three young children, and is living with the diagnosis of terminal pancreatic cancer.  The lecture. "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams", Dr. Pausch delivered to a packed auditorium has quickly become the buzz of the Internet; and has begun to be quoted from classrooms to corporate board rooms over the past week and a half.  Far from being a depressing speech, it resonates with hope, humor and healing; and exemplifies what it means to be a resilient human being.  In his talk, Dr. Pausch reflects on perceived obstacles by stating, "Brick walls are there for a reason. They let us prove how badly we want things".  I know I will never look at a brick wall the same way again.  Randy Pausch has asked Carnegie Mellon University not to copyright his last lecture, and instead leave it in the public domain.  The University has agreed and has posted the lecture, in its entirety, as a Google Video on their website.

This is an incredible story of resilience and lessons learned from the dreams of childhood. It is inspiring, poignant, and relevant to all of us who often ask ourselves, "Are we having fun yet?".  It is evident that Randy Pausch is having fun and still has much to teach us all.

Click here for the video of Dr. Randy Pausch's lecture.  This is a 1 hour and 25 minute video.  I highly recommend taking the time to view it, you won't be sorry you did."
