Greetings!

The newsletter this month is about COPING...coping with stress, coping with SATs, and for those of us in New England, finally coping with winter weather!

The upcoming "Tools for Teens" workshop will focus on strategies for coping with the stress of SATs and other standardized tests. Teens will learn and practice research validated methods of stress reducing strategies, specifically on their need for focus, clarity and concentration prior and during SATs.

A new feature in this month's newsletter is the inclusion of a video clip. To enhance Stress Resources' newsletter I will be adding more interactive features during the year. Let me know if you find this a helpful resource. This month the short CBS video clip features Dr. Elissa Epel, a researcher at the University of California--San Francisco, discussing coping and stress.

As always, I welcome your comments, suggestions, and thoughts on ways Stress Resources may continue to provide relevant, interesting, and useful resources to you.

Warmly,

Pam

NEW Tools for Teens Workshop
Teens

Test strategies and vocabulary lists are ubiquitous in prep courses for the SATs...but what about coping strategies for the stress of test taking and beyond?

I will be offering my popular Tools for Teens Workshop on Friday, February 23 from 3-5 PM (this is the last Friday of school vacation week for those in Massachusetts public schools). During this workshop, teens will learn relaxation methods, as well as ways to bring mindfulness into studying and high pressure/high performance environments (like SATs). The workshop will be a helpful adjunct to those preparing for the March 10, May 5 or June 2 SATs.

Workshop size is limited to 6 students to allow for individual instruction. Students will receive a CD with student focused relaxation and meditation exercises, as well as a manual with various handouts to review relaxation methods. Cost of the workshop, inclusive of materials is $80.

The Tools for Teens Workshop will be held in my office, located at 97 Lowell Rd. Concord, MA. Please call my office (978-369-5243) to register for the workshop.

Coping with Stress
Stress

You may remember when I highlighted the work of Dr. Elissa Epel in a previous newsletter. Dr. Epel received international attention when a study she co-authored suggested a link between cell aging and caregiver stress. This was the first study which demonstrated a direct correlation between a mother's perceived physiological stress in caring for her chronically ill child and the mother's increased cellular aging processes. If you would like to read the study, please click here.

CBS News recently interviewed Dr. Epel on the topic of Coping with Stress. Dr. Epel suggests that bringing mindfulness into our lives is one way to cope with stressors in our 24/7 lives. Click on the link below to view the interview with Dr. Epel on CBS News.
