USS Normandy (CG 60) Arrives in Savannah
Savannah is playing host to USS Normandy (CG 60), a Norfolk, VA-based guided missile cruiser. This morning, as its crew lined the rails in their dress blues, the warship slid up the Savannah River, receiving a cannon salute from Old Fort Jackson National Historic Landmark, and tying up at GPA's Ocean Terminal on River Street. One hundred fifty members of Normandy's crew will march in the Lighted Christmas Parade downtown Saturday evening, and the cruiser's Commanding Officer, Capt. Joseph Creed, will provide the keynote address at the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony at 2pm Sunday afternoon at the Mighty 8th Air Force Heritage Museum in Pooler.

Thanksgiving on the Sammy B.

Sailors aboard our Council's adopted surface warship, USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG 58), enjoyed a sumptous Thanksgiving feast served up by the ship's talented galley team. Click here to see photos on our Council's Facebook page.
Here's the latest update from the Sammy B, which is wrapping up a six-month deployment to Africa:
"We've departed Souda Bay, Greece after several days of enjoying some liberty and a visit from Vice Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Mark E. Ferguson III. The Admiral reenlisted several Sailors during the Admiral Call and then congratulated the crew on the successful mission to East Africa and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving." |
