Tall Ship Danmark Arrives 

 

Danmark passes Old Fort JacksonThe Danish tall ship Danmark sailed up the Savannah River this morning, receiving a cannon salute from Old Fort Jackson and mooring on River Street, just west of the Hyatt in front of Kevin Barry's Pub and the WWII Monument.

 

According to the Danish-American Chamber of Commerce, the ship will be open for public tours during its visit at the following times:

Wednesday September 14th at 2:00-4:30 pm

Thursday September 15th at 2:00-4:30 pm

Friday September 16th at 2:00-4:30 pm

Saturday September 17th 10:00-11:30

There will be no admission fee.

 

Danmark on River StreetBuilt in 1933, the Danmark is a steel-hulled, three-masted fully-rigged ship. It carries a permanent crew of 15 as well as 80 trainees ranging in age from 17-23.  The trainees spend 16 weeks on board the ship.  Danmark belongs to the Danish Ministry of Economics and Business Affairs.  During WWII, Danmark served as a training vessel for the US Navy and Coast Guard, and maintains close ties to the Coast Guard's Barque Eagle to this day.
