Saving Soldiers' Lives

April Dinner Speaker is Credited with Helping Save Hundreds

Capt. Frank Butler, Jr., MD

Capt. Frank Butler, Jr., MD

Savannah Native, Retired Navy Captain Frank K. Butler, Jr., MD, is a decorated officer who has led elite US Navy SEALS.  But his lasting legacy will be helping save lives on the battlefield, rather than taking out enemy combatants.    As head of the largest experimental oxygen dive series in US history, Capt. Butler supervised more than 900 dives, creating specialized techniques in use by US Navy divers today.  As Task Force Surgeon for a Joint Special Operations Counterterrorist Task Force in Afghanistan, he helped piece  together men and women broken by the worst damage modern warfare can cause.  Today, this Savannah hometown hero specializes in Tactical Combat Casualty Care, or TCCC, an advanced US military program credited with saving hundreds of lives by preventing blood loss on the battlefield.  As a result of this groundbreaking work, one in ten US casualties in Afghanistan and Iraq loses his or her life--compared to one in five in WWII and 16% in the Vietnam War.

Please join us as we give this globe-trotting Savannah native a warm hometown welcome at our next dinner meeting, 6pm Tuesday, April 26th at the Hunter Club on Hunter Army Airfield.  Dinner is $20 per person.

Reservations are due no later than close of business on Friday, April 22nd.  Make your reservation today by contacting Aunette Shipes at (912) 330-0932 or e-maililng savfoxey@bellsouth.net.
