GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC -- March 2012
The Re-emergence of Manufacturing
Robotics in manufacturing

We've come a long way.

South Carolina is now the No. 1 state for exporting vehicles, and America's top exporter of tires.

GE's Greenville facility is now the largest gas turbine manufacturing plant in the world, producing the majority of its advanced gas turbines for global export.

Bosch Rexroth's expanded manufacturing campus here will become the global power's largest manufacturing facility in the Americas.

Spain's Carbures will design, engineer and manufacture carbon fiber structures here.

Pharmaceutical Associates. Cytec. GE Aviation. Sage Automotive. ProTerra. Saati Americas. The list of advanced manufacturing success stories goes on and on... here, in Greenville County.

Companies from across the globe are choosing to set up shop here. To research, develop, design, improve and to manufacture their goods.

This is not manufacturing attracted by low labor costs, cheap land and tax incentives. This is tomorrow's economy -- demanding highly skilled and productive workers, advanced technology and innovation, and exploiting intellectual capital to advantage.

To build knowledge-based industries, GADC targets top businesses considering relocation or expansion in Advanced Materials, Automotive, Aviation/Aerospace, Research and Development and Life Sciences. These companies cumulatively offer average hourly wages nearly double historical South Carolina and Greenville County averages.

Over ten years, GADC efforts have resulted in 12,000 new jobs and over $2.3 billion in capital investment here - proof that our efforts, and focus, are paying off. Growing brand recognition of Greenville as a community that excels in advanced manufacturing is made possible by aggressive marketing visits to site consultants and industry decision-makers ... a state-of-the-art website ... sustainable workforce development initiatives ... site certification programs ... and involvement in key industry forums and conferences.

It's working. Momentum is building, and new-age manufacturing is leading the way.
