GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC -- April 2011
GADC: Ten Strong Years & Counting
The Greenville Area Development Corporation celebrated its tenth anniversary by announcing that in 2010 the GADC had worked with 20 relocating and existing companies to create 2,083 new jobs and attract new capital investment of $251.9 million. Since its inception in mid-2001, the GADC has announced over 12,000 new jobs and $2.3 billion in capital investment in the county for projects managed.
Greenville County revenues from fee-in-lieu-of-tax agreements generated by GADC-assisted companies continue to grow, cumulatively producing a 7:1 return on investment for public dollars invested in the organization since the GADC's inception.
And private sector support is at an all-time high, announced GADC Investor Relations Committee chair Chris Riley (pictured at top), with more than 140 investor organizations funding GADC marketing initiatives to produce better jobs and a brighter future for Greenville.
GADC Honors Whitworth, Hitt
GADC President & CEO Jerry Howard presented Nancy Whitworth (shown below), economic development director for the City of Greenville, with the seventh annual William D. Workman III Buffalo Hunter Award, the GADC's highest economic development honor.
A native of Abbeville County, Ms. Whitworth played a leading role in dozens of significant economic development projects impacting Greenville County, including West End Market, Fluor Field, the Peace Center, Falls Park, Southwest Airlines, Lab21 and Proterra.
Former BMW executive and recently named South Carolina Department of Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt was also presented with a special Buffalo Hunter award, symbolic of his new role as chief job and investment generator for all of South Carolina.
County Off To Fast Start In 2011
Three significant economic development announcements in early 2011 indicate that Greenville County continues to attract new jobs and investment.
Perceptis Inc., a leading provider of help desk and customer support services to the higher education market, announced and has opened a new facility in downtown Greenville, investing upwards of $1 million and creating 200 new jobs. The Cleveland-based company, founded in 2004, serves more than 100 institutions nationwide.
PAI, which formulates, manufactures and packages contract- manufactured liquid specialties, private label formulations, and a proprietary line of generic pharmaceutical liquids packaged in out-patient and unit-dose sizes, will expand its state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution, creating 15 new jobs.
Automation Engineering will invest $6.1 million and generate 78 new jobs to design and manufacture tubular products for the oil industry. The company already serves the automotive, healthcare, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and metals markets.

Economic Development Day Celebrated
In a demonstration that Greenville County's long-term prosperity is tied to smart and strategic economic development efforts, Greenville County Council has officially proclaimed April 5, 2011 as Economic Development Day across the County.
Each municipality -- Fountain Inn, Greenville, Greer, Mauldin, Simpsonville and Travelers Rest -- is following suit with its own proclamation. The intent is to salute the professional economic development community for their efforts to attract, retain and grow quality businesses in Greenville County, and to recognize the benefits to the county of their collaboration. |
