I cannot believe the October Conference is almost here! And it did not seem that long ago that we started preparing for this conference. I know time flies, but wow, not this fast! We have many vendors attending the conference this year who will again, be showcasing their products and services that are beneficial to the business needs of an LDA and that of their clients.

 | Maureen McCready Legislative Chair |
With the annual CALDA conference just a couple of weeks away I am reminded of the first CALDA conference I attended which took place at Asilomar in 2010. A veteran in the paralegal field, but new to the LDA profession, I was seeking a better understanding of what services an LDA may offer to the public and how to do so without crossing the line of legality.

The CALDA Board takes great pleasure in announcing, "Brochures have been updated and are ready to be released for our upcoming conference, October 19, 2012." The brochures are great resources for our clients. How wonderful is this benefit! Of course, this is not a substitution in place of a clients seeking legal advice. The brochures provide information concerning procedures, time lines, definitions and identification of forms required. The client is then better able to direct the LDA as to what he/she would like to have prepared. The brochures are just one of the many benefits you receive as a member of CALDA.

The CALDA Elias Referral Network Manual for CALDA Newly Updated - For Members Only
By Connie Crocket, CALDA Vice President
|
 | Elias Referral Network Manual |
In memory of Steve Elias, CALDA has created The CALDA Elias Referral Network Manual for CALDA members only. This manual has been newly updated and there are instructions, worksheets and a list of attorneys (with contact information) who, for a small fee, will dispense advice to your clients over the phone. In this manner, the attorney will help fill the gap where LDA services do not reach.
This manual will be a work in progress as we add more attorneys who believe in the LDA profession, CALDA members, and the needs of the people in this ever increasing self-represented environment. The eight "charter attorneys" in this first edition did not hesitate to help.
If you know of an attorney that you believe in, and that has that Steve Elias fighting spirit (or a similar desire to help), please have them peruse The CALDA Elias Referral Network Manual, and if they want in, have them contact the CALDA Vice-President (or any board member), and we will revise this manual as often as necessary.
It is CALDA's mission to continue providing CALDA members opportunity to increase their education, aid their clients and grow their business, and a fine way to honor our friend, Steve, pictured on the dedication page of this manual with his beloved wife, Catherine Elias-Jermany.
Thank you,
Connie Crockett CALDA Vice President
