From the Pastor's Desk

Ch Ch Ch Change!!

Change is good.  Right?

Well, not always.  Change just for the sake of change may not be particularly helpful.  But sometimes change is necessary. Sometimes, with limited resources, an organization must re-imagine what it is all about and what its role in the world is.  That is the situation we find ourselves in today with the Central Southeast Association of the Ohio Conference (CSEOA) of the United Church of Christ.  Zion is a member of that association.

As we face change, one thing, however, is fairly certain.  Change that is managed with thoughtful participation and input from those impacted, generally tends to work out better than change which is orchestrated from the top down.  In this regard, CSEOA commenced a series of listening sessions a while back to gauge input on what member churches like Zion wanted from the association in terms of support and services.  Zion was pleased to host one of these sessions.

Where is this leading?  It is leading to Saturday, August 25 when the CSEOA will present findings from its reflection upon what was said and heard at these listening sessions.  The meeting will be held in Newark. I am pleased Zion will be well represented at this meeting.  We will be able to participate in developing an image of what the association will look like in the future.  This is important.  The Association is one of our most important connections to the wider church.

This is a positive change process and your participation is not only welcome, it is encouraged. Please let us know if you would like to travel to Newark with us on August 25.

In Christ,

Pastor Pete

VBS was a great success!

We had 20 children participate in VBS at Zion this year.

What a fun time we had carrying out God's recipe at the Shake It Up Café!   The kids learned secret ingredients for living as a follower of God: Be Ready for God, Give Happily to God, Believe Fully in Jesus & Remember Jesus Often. The little chefs also expanded on what they learned with a variety of craft projects and recreational activities. - Their favorites were Mix It, Mash It, Melt It & the outdoor water game, Thirsty Scurry, where we raced to fill water bottles until they were overflowing like God's love.

The kids also really loved learning about the mission work of other children, and especially enjoyed putting together health kits for our VBS mission project. The kits they put together will be donated to SHARE www.shareyourbest.us and will help others in need. Thank you to all who donated supplies for this mission project!

Please join us for worship at Zion on SUNDAY, AUGUST 19, when the young VBS chefs will

perform for the congregation during worship.

Thank you to the many people who helped to make VBS a success:  Whitney Prose, Brian White, Nikol Stout, Kellye Powell, Sarah Newcomb, Susan White, Betsy Johnson & Shirley Irvin.

Blessings,

Kellye, Whitney and Carrie were on hand to welcome Carolyn Pettigrew from the Central Southeast Association of the Ohio Conference of the UCC. Carolyn is working with the Church Vitality committee and was here to get to know us better. We had a wonderful time together!
