Time for Reunion
Summer seems to be the appropriate time to gather for reunions; family reunions, school reunions, military reunions and others are frequently held at this time of year. True to form, this weekend I will be gathering with former classmates. The Delaware Hayes class of 1972 will gather in Delaware to celebrate our 40th (ouch!!) reunion.
While I have stayed in contact with some friends from those days, I have not seen many (most?) of my classmates for dozens of years. Much has changed. Certainly the world in which we live is different than it was forty years ago. I am sure we will be sharing stories in this regard over the weekend ahead. Not only has much in the world changed, we have changed. The pictures we will share will witness to the bright eyed optimism of youth. The bodies which will shake hands and share hugs have now been tested by forty years of life. It will be fun to share the stories of our lives with each other; careers, children, travels.
As we travel through life we do see many things change in our lives. Our bodies change (amen?). Sometimes our attitudes change. Our life circumstances change. At the same time, we also bear witness to that which is eternal and unchanging; God's love. We bear witness to God's love in community. We may find community where we work, where we worship or it may be found with former classmates from long, long ago who gather to recapture a time when life seemed to be much simpler. It is God's love which is the glue cementing these relationships of friendship and fellowship. This does not change. This is the life everlasting.
In Christ,
Pastor Pete

Feed the Biodigester~ Update!
As you know from an earlier zmail, UCC Global Ministries has assisted the village of San Pedro, Nicaragua with the installation of a biodigester which converts cow manure into methane gas. The purchase of a small range then provides a new way for the villagers to prepare meals. Pastor Pete has challenged the Zion congregation to raise a modest sum of $500 by December 1st to expand the Biodigester cooking sites in Nicaragua. We are at $40 after our first week of the challenge. If we each add just an extra dollar or two with our Sunday morning offerings, we'll reach our goal in no time! Please note that the extra dollar(s) is for the "Biodigester" on your offering slip or envelope. Thank you for supporting this effort!
