From the Pastor's Desk
Off To Faraway Lands
We do not know whether members of Zion from prior generations traveled on international missions. We have found no evidence they did. We do know that tomorrow, members of Zion will travel to Central America to immerse themselves in another culture. As one of the group traveling, I can tell you we are very excited about meeting our sisters and brothers in Nicaragua and to be traveling with friends from other UCC churches in the Association.
It is exciting, in the first instance, because we will be sharing with Christian brothers and sisters. We will be sharing our life experiences as we hear from our hosts about their lives and challenges. How will we be impacted by our immersion? How will the Spirit move us during and after our trip? How will God speak to us? Will we hear what God is saying to us? We don't know. This will be a transformative experience for some travelers. That is what makes the prospect of this trip so compelling and exciting.
It is exciting, also, because we will be able to experience an entirely different culture than our own. Being immersed in a culture different than one with which we are familiar changes a person's perspectives and enhances one's life in ways that may not be fully known for years. It will be exhilarating in that regard.
Please lift us up in your thoughts and prayers for safe travels and meaningful experiences. We can't wait to share with you when we return.
In Christ,
Pastor Pete

Nicaragua Pilgrimage Partnership - Off They Go!!!
Pastor Pete, Emily Peterson, Mike Newcomb & Sarah Newcomb leave tomorrow for their mission trip to Nicaragua with five others from Mt. Vernon Congregational UCC & Westerville Community UCC. In addition to working on local projects, including a Heifer International project, Mike and Pastor Pete will be offering their musical talents to their hosts at La Iglesia Mission. Pastor Pete has been invited to preach. Mike even spent a great deal of time learning Espaņol in preparation for the trip! Emily & Sarah will be engaging in educational efforts with Nicaraguan youth. This is the first time that we can remember a group has traveled on an international mission trip as representatives of Zion. We know they will represent us well. Godspeed!

Congratulations, Donna!
Our own Donna Jarrell was interviewed by the Association's Department for the Preparation of Authorized Ministry this week in regard to becoming a Member in Discernment. This is a preliminary step on the road to ordination. Great news!! Donna was approved unanimously by the Department.
We are so pleased to report to you that Donna's work as a Chaplain at Tionesta Park in Pennsylvania is going very well. She will be at Tionesta for the entire summer. We miss her but know she is bringing good news to her new camper friends.
